1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Tabora region, is a most largest region in Tanzania, located in Western part of Tanzania with a total population of 2,291,623 millions of people according to the 2012 national census and population of 3,391,679 millions people according to the 2022 national sensus, https://sensa.nbs.go.tz . Also with many numbers of universities and colleges.

There has never been any training event or edit-a-thon to train people and notify them about Wikimedia projects and how they can contribute to them in Western Tanzania especially in Tabora region while there is a big demand of having it, unlike other regions in Tanzania mostly in Northern part where there has been a series of training and presence of the Wikimedia communities.

This project aim on introducing and creating awareness of the Wikimedia movements and its sister's projects amongst youths especially universities and colleges students in Tabora region. And to train them how to contribute to those projects, with a focus on different articles that do not have wide coverage on Swahili Wikipedia.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

1. Recruiting participants across different universities and colleges and other interested youths in Tabora region.

2. Creating awareness about Wikimedia projects among participants in the Tabora region.
3.Training participants on how to contribute to the various Wikimedia projects.
4. Creating a community of Wikimedia editors in Tabora

The above approaches will allow full participation of students from different institutions and other interested youths in Tabora region, as a results we could implant and promote Wikimedia projects knowledge and awareness to many youths, contributor gaps in Swahili Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects could be bridged in such a way and also many impactful contributions will be produced in Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons etc, thus Swahili readers could gain free knowledge from all the Wikimedia projects.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

Firstly, we will visit different universities and colleges (as we had already visiting two universities before constructing the proposal; Tabora teachers college, Archbishop Mihayo University of Tabora) before hosting events, then we will host a series of four events;

1. The first event will be an introduction to Wikimedia Movement and training on Wikipedia and Wikimedia commons. Here the participants will get to learn more about these two projects.
2. The second event will be an edit-a-thon where the participants will get a chance to have a hands on experience on what they learnt on the first event.
3. The third event will be a training on Wikidata and training on the mistakes that might have happened in the second event.
4. The forth event will be an edit-a-thon where the participants will get a Wikidata hands-on experience and get to correct the mistakes that happened in the second edit-a-thon.
4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.

The project aim on bridging the contents gap by translating articles from English Wikipedia to Swahili Wikipedia and updating existing articles about people, places and organizations in Tabora region, by promoting knowledge equity aligned with the strategic direction of the Wikimedia movement because it will increase the investment of resources in underrepresented Wikimedia communities around the world.

As we have already had direct conversation with leadership of some colleges and universities in Tabora; Tabora teachers colleges, Archbishop Mihayo University of Tabora and they have agreed with a great enthusiasm to provide training to some of their students( because of the budget limit we can't afford all) and some staff.

The call for participation which will be done through social media platforms and outreach program in their universities and colleges. All Participants will be sent an online form to get their data and for registration.

During the events, I and my team members will be actively involved in facilitating the training and also making sure that the participants get the act and art of contributing to Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects; How to edit Wikipedia, how to add and create item on Wikidata, how to uphold media file on Wikimedia commons etc.

After the event, participants will join as members in the Wikimedia community, this will keep them updated and encourage participation during wiki events. We will conduct post event survey to collect views and feedback from our participants, also via the Whats-app and Telegram groups.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?
