1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Wiki Loves Africa 2023 in Ruhengeri will focus on recruiting new volunteers in our user group and on involving participants in media shooting that illustrate the theme of this year's campaign: "Climate and Weather". Pictures and videos will be uploaded on Wikimedia commons, and they will be used to update and visualize Rwanda related contents on Wikipedia and on its sister projects.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

As volunteers of Wikimedia through Wikimedians of Ruhengeri User Group, we plan to do this project to raise awareness about Wikimedia and help in thinning internet photo gap by uploading free licenced photos and videos on WikiCommons. Through this project we will provide space where participants from Ruhengeri community will learn, improve their skills of uploading captioned, described and categorized photos & videos to contribute on Wikimedia projects especially WikiCommons through Wiki Loves Africa 2023. This is the first time the campaign will be organized in our community, we will apply different strategies including reach out to participants through all our communication channels and social medias. It will be effective because young or new participants will get environment for learning and contributing to Wikimedia movement.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

We will organize physical event of launching project which will aim to explain, train and share all guidance about project, after launching project we will do follow up and continue helping participants in all corners. In closing of project, we will share the success of the community campaign, recognize and award prizes to 5 top contributors who uploaded quality and quantity photos & videos.

5. Do you have the team that is needed to implement this proposal?

Our local activity will be organized within a global framework, local organizers are User:Nirwanda12 User:MrTallBoy and User:Fabnk they are trained editors who can support our work. The campaign will be globally organized by the Wiki In Africa team. The global team does provide communication material (e.g. social media cards and posts), communication channels and is organizing online training and support for participating groups (office hours, one-on-one, telegram group, etc.) Key people for mentorship are User:Anthere and User:Islahaddow, and key communication support is User:Ceslause. Several formally participating people, including other participating Communities are already indicated that they will join again and can further help, more in depth.

The project will help to have more photos and videos from Ruhengeri, Rwanda related to the theme of the 2023 campaign, Climate and Weather.

Target participants are existing and any interested volunteer from Ruhengeri, Rwanda in general, I will reach them via social media, WhatsApp groups and email as well. In retaining new participants, I will add them in community WhatsApp group.

We will adhere strictly to the Wikimedia friendly space policy and Universal Code of Conduct to make sure that everyone is exercising all the rights they deserve.

We will announce the project through various local communication channels like Whatsapp groups of Wikimedians of Ruhengeri User Group and on its discussion's pages on meta.
