1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

There is inadequate content about the various types of Libraries in Nigeria on Wikipedia and the existing list of Libraries in Nigeria does not reflect the actual statistics of public, academic, national, private, research libraries in Nigeria with reference to a research conducted in 2019, and the existing nominal list of libraries published by the National Library of Nigeria in 2019. It is also discovered that there is an incomplete categorization of libraries, library associations, Nigerian librarians, and librarianship professors. More so, out of the 170 academic libraries identified on Wikipedia only a few have an article on Wikipedia. This is not different from the available list of notable librarians in Nigeria. In a query carried out on Wikidata query builder for notable Librarians in Nigeria, the result indicated only 124 and 478 libraries with a lot of missing statements that can assist researchers and readers. This project will help correct and improve;

the incomplete categorization of the different types of Libraries, Library associations, Librarians, and Librarianship professors in Nigeria.

This project will;

Enable Librarians and Library students to become content creators on Wikipedia other than being retrievers, disseminators, and verifiers of information on Wikipedia and wikidata.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

Recruiting 15 new and existing editors from Library schools, Library associations, and all types of libraries in Nigeria to allow all representatives from all identified areas for improvement to participate in this project.

Created a documentation page for the project containing a comprehensive analysis of the campaign and a list of articles /items on Libraries, Librarians, and Library Associations to work on for easy access to the articles.

Increasing awareness of Wikimedia projects and the current problem among Nigerian librarians. 50% of participants may be familiar with English Wikipedia and Wikidata, but they may be unaware of all the shortcomings of existing articles on Libraries and Librarians in Nigeria on Wikipedia and Wikidata, highlighting the need for this approach.

Training participants on how to contribute to the various Wikimedia projects that the training focuses on; create Wikipedia account, understand the core content policies, understand general editing principles, perform minor edits, create categories, expand articles about Libraries and Librarians in Nigeria, and create articles using article creation Wizard on Wikipedia.

Training participants on how to run queries to know the existing data gaps on Wikidata about the different types of Libraries, Library associations, and Librarians in Nigeria.

Train participants on how to create and improve items about Libraries, Library associations, and notable Librarians in Nigeria on Wikidata.

Use outreach dashboard, hashtag tools, and article listing methods to track editors' contributions and also provide one on one support for editors.

Giving out prizes to the top 6 contributors as incentives to motivate them at the end of the campaign.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

The first implementation of the WikiLovesLibrariesNigeria campaign will run for a period of one month to introduce, train and improve articles/items about libraries and Librarians on Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikicommons.

The strategies that will be adopted in carrying out the project will include:

1. Two (2) days of an in-person (physical) workshop for chartered practicing librarians in the different types of Libraries, Library associations, and Library science students in Nigeria. And regular one-on-one support for the contributors (new /existing editors) during the physical training.

2. Two (2) series of online follow-up training during the campaign to properly equip them with needed skills about how to edit on Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikicommons.

Bukky658( Project lead): is a fellow of Wikipedian in African Libraries, and the first Certified Trainer of the Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom program in Nigeria. She has led several projects among which include: Reading Wikipedia in the Classroom Kwara, Nigeria, 1Lib1Ref Kwara 2022, WikiGLAM Awareness for Librarians in Kwara State, and Wikidata for Libraries and notable Librarians in Kwara State. Co-organiser Wikipedia awareness for Library and Information Students in Nigeria, Wikidata for novelists and their novels, and the founder of the Wikimedia Fan Club, Kwara State University.

AKibombo (Facilitator): She is an experienced Wikimedian and Librarian. A member of the Community User Group Uganda and have engaged in a number Wikimedia programs since 2016 in various capacities including but not limited to : a database manager for Uganda for Loves Women, a mentor for series of project and have ran a number of 1Lib1Ref programs in East Africa and regularly participated in WikiGap.

Ugwulebo (Facilitator):is a librarian, researcher and the co-founder of the Port Harcourt Wikimedia Hub. He is an experienced Wikimedian who has organized several Wikimedia projects in Nigeria. He will facilitate this project. He has also been involved in other climate related projects in Nigeria and beyond.

Olani Olabimpe (Advisor and resource person)- Wikimedian with over 30 years of experience as a library administrator and director at the National Library of Nigeria Kwara State Branch. She is also the chairman of the Nigerian Library Association Kwara State chapter. She has also participated in competitions and campaigns such as 1Lib1Ref2020, WikiAflib 1Lib1Ref 2021, and local in-person meetup Wikimania for the Wikimedians of Sustainable Development in Nigeria 2022.

The content of the campaign will prioritise bridging the information gap by updating and expanding existing articles and creating new articles about libraries, library associations, and notable Librarians in Nigeria, while documenting them on English Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikicommons to promote knowledge equity in line with the Wikimedia movement's strategic direction.

This campaign is targeted at the chartered practicing Librarians and Students of Library and Information Science in Nigeria.
During the campaign planning stage, we hope to create awareness before implementation for Libraries, Librarians and Library Science students by paying a visit to some of the institutions, chairmen of the library associations in Nigeria, and creating awareness about the project on various social media platforms which they belong.
The call for participation will be done through various social media platforms using E-posters, and banners to promote the program online. All Participants will be sent an online form to get their data for proper documentation.
During the project, I and my team member will be actively involved in facilitating the training and also making sure that the participants get the act and art of contributing to Wikipedia and its’ sister’s projects; Wikidata, and WikiCommons.
Also, the training is set to have 2 physical and online training/ Edithatons to ensure that editors are properly guided on how to bridge the knowledge and content gap across various Wikimedia projects during the editing contest.
To ensure the sustainability of the project, After the events, participants will be recruited to the existing Wikibrarian group and the various Wikimedia user groups, this will keep them updated and encourage more librarian’s participation during wiki events. Participants will be added to the existing messaging channel for follow-up, updates, questions, etc. These participants would also be invited to future events.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

The Wikimedia events' general friendly space policy will be summarised and read at the start of each event to remind participants and organisers of the importance of a friendly space policy. In addition, the following 24 hours hotline will be made available throughout the physical event; organisers, local venue security, law enforcement officers, local sexual assault hotline, local emergency, and non-emergency medical services, and local taxi companies will be available.

This partnership is crucial for the increased participation of Librarians in Nigeria through advocacy, mobilization, and communication. It will enable access to accurate information materials from the various libraries' collections and the online databases for the campaign.
