Wiki4Inclusion in Tanzania aims at bridging the gap of including people with disability in a digital space and increasing Swahili language contents to Wikimedia projects relating to people with hearing impairment. It's a replication campaign from the main Wiki4Inclusion founded in Ghana by Stella Sessy Agbley and Ing. Joy Agyepong. The motivation of launching this project in Tanzania came after attending their session at WikiIndaba 2023 in Agadir, Morocco and hearing their story on how they started and their progress on engaging people with disabilty. We had a 101 talk after the session on how to extend the initiatives in our country since i found that we have not yet engaged enough if not completely people with hearing impairment in the Wikimedia Movement especially for projects like Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, Wikipedia and other sister projects. For instance, in this category (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Sign_languages_by_country) sign language for Tanzania is not yet covered including in other projects. So, in this campaign I'll be working with the team to bridge this gap by:

1. Recruiting new editors who are hearing impaired and training them on how to contribute to Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons. This will include creating new articles or translating the existing ones from English to Swahili. This will help to increase content relating to their disability.

2. Training interpreters and Association staffs on how to contribute to Wikimedia projects.

3. Building a team of experienced Wikimedians who will guide newbies during and after the edit a thons. This will help to clean up contents created and motivating trainees so as to retain them.

4. Adding images, videos and signs items to Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

We are planning to launch this campaign by providing two (2) trainings and organizing physical and online edit -a-thons which will be accompanied by a contest. We shall provide training to staffs and members of The Tanzania Association of the Deaf (TAD), Association of Interpreters (CHAWALATA) and students from secondary schools and universities who are hearing impaired.

Also, making media contents for Wikimedia Commons relating to hearing impairment, for instance, sign language videos and images.

Moreover, providing prizes for top five (5) contributors in form of gift vouchers and certificates as one way of motivating them.

8. Describe your team. Please provide their roles, Wikimedia Usernames and other details. (required) Include more details of the team, including their roles, usernames, Wikimedia group, and whether they are salaried, volunteers, consultants/contractors, etc. Team members involved in the grant application need to be aware of their involvement in the project.

The campaign will involve the following team members who will work as volunteers: User: Rwebogora - Project Lead, Coordinator and Trainer - A social scientist by professional and an experienced Wikimedian who joined the movement in 2019 contributing to Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons and other sister projects, having experience in editing, training, organizing, facilitating, mentoring and photographing. User: Anuary Rajabu - Facilitator - An experienced Wikimedian and a founder of Wikimedians of Tabora. User: Killy95 - Facilitator - An experienced Wikimedian from Wikimedia Community User Group Tanzania with experience in editing and organizing events. Beatrice Chiluka - Sign Language Interpreter - An experienced sign language inyterpreter and a Deputy General Secretary of Tanzania Sign Language Interpreters Association Rafia Salim - Assistant Sign Language Interpreter - A certified sign language interpreter and a student of The Institute of Social Work (ISW), Tanzania. User:Olimasy : Technical Advisor - A telecomunication engineer by professional and an experienced Swahili Wikipedia admin.

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)

The targeted participants will be people with hearing impairment from their associations and those who are not in the associations. We expect also to have related stakeholders such Sign Language Interpreters to understand well Wikimedia Movement so that they can be a great help to other and hence they communicate with with the deaf. Moreover, deaf students from secondary school and universities will be part of the trainees. Already we have made meet ups with representatives (leaders) from targeted associations and some universities informing them of our plans and got a good welcome of participating in the campaign. We shall make sure that all participants with supportive devices can register to the event registration tool to get access to the dashboard for progress tracking. Also, we shall form a team with leaders from each association and school/college/university who will be reporting to us of their progress, but also forming social network groups like WhatsApp and Telegram to ease communication. In addition, we shall check the possibilities of forming Wiki clubs of hearing impaired people in schools and universities for a close follow-up and massive contribution to the movement.
