Other (please specify) Other (please specify) Kiwix shares the same vision of providing free and accessible knowledge to humanity.

The Wikimedia Endowment's commitment to a world of freely shared knowledge, and its belief in knowledge as a foundation for human potential, freedom, and opportunity, resonates with the mission of Kiwix4schools. By providing offline access to educational content, Kiwix4schools contributes to ensuring that knowledge is available to students and educators even in areas with limited internet connectivity, thereby supporting the vision of a world where knowledge is freely accessible to all.

6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

In many developing communities, accessing the internet is a challenge due to the high cost of data bundles, making it unaffordable for many individuals as reported: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_in_Africa https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_divide_by_continent,_area_and_country Additionally, internet reliability is often limited, particularly in remote areas with poor infrastructure. To address these issues, we plan to introduce the "Kiwix tool" (https://kiwix.org/en/about-us/#our-story), an offline web browser designed to provide access to content such as Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page) Wikidata( https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Main_Page and), Wiktionary( https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Main_Page) without requiring an internet connection. Our foremost objective is to boost education in Nigerian schools, prioritizing educators (teachers) as key beneficiaries. Through the installation of Kiwix on their local PCs, smart phones, educators will gain offline access to Wikipedia projects, empowering them with valuable knowledge and resources. This initiative aims to help them enriched their curriculum, ensuring educators can keep their students up-to-date with the latest information and resources. Kaduna State, often referred to as the "Center of Learning" in Nigeria, has been chosen for the pilot project due to its longstanding reputation for educational excellence and its strategic significance in the country's educational landscape. By launching the "Kiwix4Schools in Nigeria: Kaduna State Pilot Project," we aim to leverage this status to maximize the impact of our initiative. This project will serve as a model that can be replicated in other states across Nigeria, ensuring that all educators, especially those in rural areas, have access to a wealth of knowledge through offline Wikipedia content.

In summary the "change we aimed" for "Kiwix4Schools in Nigeria: Kaduna State Pilot Project" is to enhance education in schools and underserved areas by providing offline access to Wikipedia, improving learning outcomes and educational equity.

While the "challenges" we are trying to solve include:

1. Lack of Internet Connectivity: Rural schools struggle with poor or no internet access. 2. Resource Scarcity: Limited access to up-to-date textbooks and educational materials. 3. Teacher Support: Insufficient professional development and teaching resources for rural teachers.

Lastly, our approaches to achieve the change are:

1. Teacher Training: Conduct workshops to help teachers use Kiwix readers and integrate content into their lessons. 2. Collaborative Partnerships: Work with the Kaduna State Ministry of Education and local communities for successful implementation. 3. Monitoring and Evaluation: Track usage and impact, gather feedback, and improve the initiative. This project aims to bridge the digital divide, enhance teaching and learning, empower teachers, and promote educational equity.

Gathering input from end-users helps identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas that need enhancement. This feedback loop enhances the project's adaptability and relevance. 7. Continuous Content Updates and Improvements: The education landscape evolves, and so should the project's content. This activity ensures that the offline resources remain up-to-date, relevant, and aligned with changing educational needs. Regular updates enhance the longevity and usefulness of the project. 8. Collaboration with Content Providers and Educators: Collaboration strengthens the project's resource base and ensures a diverse range of materials. Engaging content providers and educators brings expertise and fresh perspectives, enriching the quality of educational content. 9. Establishing Local Partnerships for Sustainability: Sustainability is a cornerstone of project success. By forging partnerships with local organizations, the project taps into existing networks and resources. This activity enhances the project's long-term viability and amplifies its impact. 10. Scaling Up the Project to Reach More Schools: Scaling up extends the project's reach and impact. As more schools benefit from offline resources, the project's influence grows, and the transformative potential of education is realized on a broader scale. These chosen activities are interconnected and strategically aligned to ensure that the Kiwix4schools project effectively addresses the challenges of limited internet access in Nigeria schools. Each activity contributes to the project's overall success by creating a holistic, sustainable, and impactful approach to bridging the digital divide and empowering education.
