1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

As a woman, it come to my realization that there's currently a very wide gender gap difference between male contributors and female volunteers across Wikimedia projects. One of the key factors to that is the fact that men more than 80% of the projects are being organized and lead by men which in the process encourage men participation and hinders women on the other side. This might be part of the reasons why females are underrepresented on Wikipedia by looking at the contents availability when compared to those created about men since based on a common sense, men would normally prefer to write more about men and women would also contribute more contents that speaks about females. So, looking at the northern Nigeria which is where I live, I believe women participation is essential and would be of great support in creating contents which promote women which would help to balance the contents of Wikipedia and reduce the existing issue of gender gap.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

It's without doubt that not all women in northern Nigeria are really good in technological know-how or have the basic knowledge of using the internet. Therefore, selection of the event hosting location is an approach to make sure that the targeted women have the required exposure to internet space and posses even a little knowledge of what Wikipedia is all about in addition to their knowledge of operating computer systems and smart phones. Secondly, women participation is not limited to a particular community, therefore the project is planned to be a kind of a small hybrid event where women from different ethnic groups and background would be invited and be introduced to Wikipedia as well as the languages in which the Wikipedia is currently which they could contribute whether in English or their prospective home languages. Finally, women in literary world, those who are writers and educators/teachers would also be giving more emphasis and encourage to participate because such women have the potentials to serve as a voice of women on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

I planned to carryout an edit-a-thon and awareness campaigns to ring a bell amongst women to know about the project and also train them on how to contribute contents on any of the three WIkimedia projects I want to introduce to them which are; Wikipedia, Wikidata and WIkimedia Commons. The activities would go on like this:

1. Three days making awareness campaign
2. Two days editathon/workshop: the first workshop would be the introduction to the Wikimedia projects. While in the mid of the project we would organize a retraining session to correct possible errors and mistakes we observe from the contents which the participant might make in the process doing their edits. This would also help us give them additional guides and supports where necessary.
4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.

WikiGap, Other (please specify)

2. Harandee. is my fellow female colleague from Wikimedia Fulfulde Community and have been playing roles in the previously organized project alongside Zaynab05 and Ahmerd Adam who are all part of the experienced editors we have in the community.
3. Hajjare; myself have been a facilitator in the Thematic Weeks Project and Wikidata Workshop organized by Wikimedia Fulfulde Community. I have serve the role of welfare and maintain the tracks of participants' activities during both the projects.

Gender Identity, Ethnic/racial/religious or cultural background

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities?

The target participants are merely women who have interest for volunteer works, knowledge of internet space and also have passion for writing as a hobby or helping the humanity. They would be from different ethnic background to help bring more women to each of the existing Wikipedia so as to help start addressing the problem of content gender gap. Before and after the event, these women would be actively engage by opening and adding them to the designed project group and also by submitting their names and introducing them to the leaders of various groups/communities where each of them belong in order to meet other editors who would also encourage them to continue volunteering.
