Prompt response to harassment and create a common forum exclusively for harassment related. Generate more moderators for anti-harassment.
Most of the time when a user is harassed, the only feasible solution is to report the harassment/user to administrators which doesn't offer much of a solution to the victimized user. What the victim really need is not hours and days of waiting but a prompt response/solution that will justify the few extra clicks the user took to report. To solve the existing problem of poor response system, more users be allowed to get involve by creating a common forum exclusively for harassment related case where users can interact. The forum will provide an option where a user can sign up/click on some buttons to take/accept the role of (insert a nice tag here) eg. Anti-Harassment Police. For a user to take this role, the user can be judged based on their past reliability, or an ID proof system can be put into place so that only genuine and concerned users sign up for this. When a user is reported for harassment, whoever is online and signed up as anti-harassment moderators will receive a message notifying them (Facebook message mechanism - a pop sound, a red colored +1 somewhere in one of the corners of the screen). When clicked, the user will be taken to the forum where he/she will get to interact with the victim. The existing system in place and the course of action to take can be followed accordingly.

What is the problem you're trying to solve? edit

The existing slow response system to address harassment. Victims of harassment want a quick and prompt response and not hours and days of waiting till their issues are resolved.

What is your solution? edit

A prompt and quick response. By putting into place the project as summarize above, more users will get involved to collectively solve issues of harassment and with more resources at hand, a fast-track mechanism will take place. A victim of online harassment wants a prompt and quick response when he/she took the extra clicks to report being harassed. Through this project, we can solved the problem of the existing response system that often take days to get resolved. More administrators/moderators (with minor roles) can be appointed based on past judgement or an ID proof checking system can also be put into place so that the reliability is not compromised.

  • yes. I also think the admin community *and* the WMF have failed on this. But the devil will be in the details - who is going to respond to a report of harassment? how will they be trained? what will happen if 2 people report each other for harassment? Smallbones (talk) 19:41, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
  • This is not for volunteers, you need paid employees who are trained to recognized specifically defined forms of harassment. Other sites do this, think YouTube for example, you can flag something that is against their community standards which are specifically called out in a drop-down menu. —Neotarf (talk) 01:17, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
  • yes. A few years ago I was subjected to a campaign of harassment by my son who submitted and resubmitted various defamatory statements. My requests to have them removed were not answered and there was no easy way to report my problem. To compound the issue I was told that I should not delete or edit the material myself, and the admins said they could not tell what was factual and what wasn't. Those things are still on the talk page and in the end I just stopped contributing to wikipedia altogether. Too late for me, but it would be good to have a clear way of reporting harassment, especially requests for removal of defamatory material. Rozziew (talk) 13:36, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
