Grants:IdeaLab/Promotion to women from existing Wikipedians
Project idea
editWhat is the problem you're trying to solve?
editExisting contributors associate with women in their social circles. A contributor can promote Wikipedia in a number of ways.
What is your solution?
editThe contributor can show the women with whom he/she associates articles he/she has written and explain anyone can create articles. The contributor needs to relate the writing of articles to things in which the women has an interest. If he/she can get someone interested enough to write, then he/she should show the interested person some of the tools Wikipedia has to aid in the writing and editing of articles. Another idea is to get the interested person to set up a user name and thus get a sandbox. Show this person how she can perform complex information searches using the Find Source tool
Goals
editThe goal is to promote Wikipedia to more women and get them interested in becoming contributors.

edit- On the sideline of this, it would be interesting to find out why Wikipedians of all genders may not yet do it, e.g., reach out to people of other genders and encourage them to join. --10:57, 13 March 2015 (UTC)
- As librarian I try to show how you can edit in Wikipedia specially to other librarians - and these are mostly woman. Most of them are interested in Wikipedia but don't want to edit themselves. Even when I show the VisualEditor. This is an experience from Switzerland. --Hadi (talk) 16:06, 17 March 2015 (UTC)
- I think this is a practical approach: since we have so many men, if the men invite the women they know to edit that provides leverage for doing outreach. Ocaasi (talk) 00:24, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- I've done it already and it does not work, but maybe you can teach us all how to present it in a more appealing manner to a lady...--Alexmar983 (talk) 00:41, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
