Wikimedia Commons: Add upload option to mobile website

 N Proposer did not respond

  • Problem: I contribute images through the mobile website (commons.m.wikimedia.org) from a smartphone via the mobile website (I can not download any mobile App for that purpose). When I log in with the smartphone to the mobile website there is no "upload files" button in the menu on the left
  • Who would benefit: Everybody who contributes to files to Commons with their mobile phone
  • Proposed solution: Just add a link to the regular upload pages

    Upload button on commons mobile
@Hangman'sDeath: Can you be more specific, there is a giant "Upload" button on mobile commons as soon you go to the link you mentioned above. See image below, which I uploaded via commons mobile after following that link. — xaosflux Talk 15:18, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
They mention the "menu on the left" which I assume is the hamburger flyout menu. Links there can't easily be configured there (phab:T65459), but it's still doable with JavaScript with the help of an interface admin in commons:MediaWiki:Minerva.js with something like mw.util.addPortletLink('p-navigation', '/wiki/Special:Upload', 'Upload'). There'll be a slight delay before it gets added but this should be fine because the sidebar menu isn't shown without first tapping the hamburger icon. Gothca, perhaps this user story can be further explained, maybe they want the "upload" button on more pages? If the fix is about adding to "mobile-frontend-*" menu, phab:T65459 seems like the best fix to me, and would fix any similar issues! — xaosflux Talk 15:55, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
