Allow footnotes to be added in the visual editor
Request withdrawn Withdrawn by proposer
- Problem: The visual editor does not allow footnotes to be added.
- Who would benefit: Visual editors.
- Proposed solution: Add a function on the visual editor to add a footnote.
- More comments: Adding footnotes should be as easy as adding references, but on the visual editor one is easy and the other impossible.

- Seems like a good idea. We should be able to choose one of several ways this is currently done in code and add it to the VE. There also should be an easy way to move a "fake reference" (i.e. footnote) from references to footnotes section. --Piotrus (talk) 04:48, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response. I did not realize there is a limit on the number of submissions per user, so if you are interested, I suggest resubmitting this proposal once it gets removed.Keepcalmandchill (talk) 05:44, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- This seems like a very important feature if indeed it's currently missing. — Bilorv (talk) 18:09, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- By footnote I assume you mean what Wikipedia calls a list-defined reference? --Izno (talk) 19:33, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- Keepcalmandchill, can you give an example (a diff would be handy) of exactly what you want to be able to add? Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 06:22, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
- This needs more specifics. As far as I know, VE editors can use the Cite button, or Insert - Template - sfn (or efn, or similar templates) in order to insert references and footnotes. Jonesey95 (talk) 03:39, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
- Please archive this, I'm withdrawing the proposal. Keepcalmandchill (talk) 04:39, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
