Problem: Switzerland has adopted a new coordinate grid by adding additional 2000 km of false easting and 1000 km of false northing. Location 600 000 / 200 000 has thus become 2 600 000 / 1 200 000.
Who would benefit: all readers of articles about locations in Switzerland
Isn't this something that a bot can do rather easily ? Are there no bot authors within the german community capable of taking on this task ? Maybe a lua module to convert old values to new display values ? —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 08:46, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I assume coordinate values are stored as WGS84, which means degrees latitude and degrees longitude. Therefore, the change should probably be made in the conversion/diplay template, not by using a bot changing thousands of articles. --Stopfentrudel (talk) 09:05, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see this was brought up last year on German Wikipedia, but no change has been made. It seems to be up to German Wikipedia community if or when they want to make the transition and change easting/northing values (and possibly other parts of conversion formulas if new coordinates' system requires it) in given template.
