Central Asian WikiCon 2025/Venue
Tashkent
Tashkent is the largest city and the capital of Uzbekistan. Besides more than 2 millenias of history it is the modern megapolis hugely rebuilt after the 1966 earthquake. Being remodelled as a "showcase of an Asian socialism" it was given a wide avenues, high-functioning transport system and a lot of buildings now considered as the monuments of a unique local version of the Soviet modernist architecture standing in line with the monuments of Russian Empire era and Middle Ages.
Being a megapolis since the Soviet times Tashkent haven't lost its multicultural basis and while the main nationality here are Uzbeks, there's still a lot of other nationalities such as Russians, Kazakhs, Ukrainians, Koreans etc. While Uzbek is the official language, Russian is still widely used in Tashkent, English and Turkish have also been gaining popularity over the last 20 years.
To navigate in the city you can use Yandex.Maps or upload 2GIS application to your smartphone to use maps (including transport routes and organizations) without the Internet connection. Google maps are also available but have worse usability in the region.
You can also check the Wikivoyage article "Tashkent".

How to get there
Addresses in Tashkent can sometimes be ambiguous, both on maps and in real life, meaning they don't always match. The address we have verified through Yandex.Maps and 2GIS is 1/4 Makhtumkuli Street, Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It is located in the Yashnobod District of Tashkent, with the closest metro station being "Mashinasozlar". Although "Doʻstlik" is physically closer, there is no direct route from it to the school.
