Discussion edit

What is/was the point of scheduling a message about “The registration is open until 3 November.” to run 5–7 November? (With the expected goal of “We expect to have several hundred people to sign up for participation.”) Somebody edited the displayed message not to include this information after the notice started displaying, so at least that does not stick out there that much. --Mormegil (cs) 21:40, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Central Notice admin comments edit

  • @Kiril Simeonovski: We do recognize that project organizers want to have a very wide reach of their projects. However, this request is beyond scope: All projects in all languages for readers and editors in all countries cannot be fulfilled. There are campaigns at the same time, including fundraising campaigns (for readers). Usually, we demand translatable pages which already provide translations for most languages the banners are going to be displayed. To date, I can only find an English landing page which makes sense as the conference will be held in English. That information could be part of the banner text (which then could also be translated in various languages) but such a hot fix shouldn't be carried out to readers. Therefore, please tell me, in which regards you intend to focus your campaign (countries, languages, users) and I will set up this campaign. —DerHexer (Talk) 21:40, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @DerHexer: The campaign is targeting CEE countries & languages. As we will have simultaneous interpretation into Russian (a regional lingua-franca in ex-USSR countries), I would propose showing the banner in Russian to the most Wikipedias in the languages of Russia (except az, kk, uk & fi - latter not even in CEE). Tomorrow I will inform ex-USSR communitees from CEE region about organizers' intent to show the banner and ask them in which conference working language (English or Russian) they would like to have it.--Frhdkazan (talk) 20:28, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the lists of adjustments! I think that this should be doable. I'll set up the campaign tomorrow if it will not have been set up yet by other CN admins. The translation extension requires English as default but allows translations in all remaining languages so that I will copy and adjust the provided Russian text. But instead of two link in the banner, we usually only send people to one landing page in our banners. If you do not raise a huge objection here, I'd choose the translatable main page. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 23:31, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Kiril Simeonovski and Frhdkazan: I've created campaign and banner as requested. Please check here the English and Russian version if it's okay with you. You can copy/translate the message into any other language as proposed by you. Surprisingly, I couldn't select XK = Kosovo in the campaign settings. Seems to be a bug to me. But I cannot do anything about it right now. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 22:24, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@DerHexer: I find both the English and Russian versions okay, so you can proceed with publishing the banner.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 22:20, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
