Discussion edit

Just a quick note, I have made the WMF legal team aware of this request and will update decisions here and with @Jetam2 directly. Thanks JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 08:27, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@JBrungs (WMF): Thank you for the note.--Jetam2 (talk) 17:46, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Note to admins, WMF and the user group have signed an agreement and the user group can run the tax banners. @Jetam2 have a good campaign. Best, JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 07:13, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@JBrungs (WMF) Thank you for the notification. So, there should be no other problem with running this, right?--Jetam2 (talk) 09:31, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not from the WMF's side, now that the agreement is signed. JBrungs (WMF) (talk) 09:49, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@DerHexer and Martin Urbanec: Could we get this going, please? Or let me know if there is an issue? Thank you!--Jetam2 (talk) 13:58, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Jetam2 and JBrungs (WMF): I cannot remember that volunteer CentralNotice administrators have ever set up a fundraising campaign. Personally, I volunteer to support community outreach, content creation, event advertisement, and such. Raising funds should be left to professionals, including setting up the campaigns. — I think I wouldn't want to take this responsibility here. There are plenty of fundraising banner campaign experts (e.g., at WMF or WMDE) among the CentralNotice administrators who could help much better here. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 14:47, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@DerHexer: What makes you hesitate? Everything has been set up already, we just need to enable the banners. The Foundation okayed it, the community okayed it. Fundraising banners have been done in the past. How can we resolve this? Pinging the whole group? PS: I did not think of using that list as admins (as volunteers) are listed on the request page.--Jetam2 (talk) 19:32, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jetam2: What do you mean with “has been set up already”? I cannot find a campaign on Special:CentralNotice nor a usable banner on Special:CentralNoticeBanners. Therefore, both have to be created. The banner draft you've provided contains wikimarkup which we cannot use here. So we have to develop a similar banner first which will take some time. Then, we have to test the banner for logged-in, anonymous, desktop, mobile and in all combinations. All in all, this will take between 15 and 30 minutes. As said, I will invest my time for creating the various community campaigns which have been proposed instead of a fundraising campaign when there are hired fundraising experts who could set up these. Certainly, you can ping other stewards or CentralNotice administrators. As you've found the list of people, you are already aware who has actually set up CN banner campaigns here in 2022. Maybe you can motivate others to help out here. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 16:38, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@DerHexer: Dear Der Hexer. To be honest, I am quite baffled by your response and still not quite sure what to say but at the same time feel rather pressed on time as the last weeks of our inteded campaign are quickly ticking by (tax returns are to be handed in by 31 March) so here it is. You make it sound as if this was a commercial project. It is not, the funds collected will ultimately go towards content creation as you request. We will probably collect between five hundred and a thousand Euros and this is the majority of our non-WMF funding. Hiring an external expert does quite match it. There are several similar campaigns done in the past, some self enabled. I am not able to tell whether by (at the time) staff or not. Some have no indication. Correct me, please, if I am wrong, but I have not found any "fundraising needs to have own staff" disclaimer on Central Notice pages. It might be a good idea to include this to avoid further delays in the future.
I have used similar wikimarkup before and it has not been a problem (as far as I could tell) so I was unaware that there was any special markup required.
What I found was the volunteers listed on the Request page and as I wrote above I had no way of knowing that they (or at least one) would refuse and that I should look for alternatives. You linked the list and thank you for that. So, I will scramble and contact other possible providers off-wiki first, hopefully that will work.--Jetam2 (talk) 21:39, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Central Notice admin comments edit

  • @Jetam2: Alright, all community campaigns are finished and I still had some minutes left. I've created the campaign and banner (preview). There must be some space around the text and logo. I hope that this till works for you. Two notes: 1) Why do you want to have the campaign running for logged-in users, too? I think that all fundraising campaigns nowadays are limited to anonymous users. 2) Please get the landing page fixed, I get this error: Warning: Trying to access array offset on value of type null in /data/d/0/d02453b1-a9d8-495d-b9d5-7190f53fd509/wikimedia.sk/web/wp-content/plugins/cta/classes/class.cta.render.php on line 492
    As soon as these things are solved and you confirm the settings, I can enable the campaign. Best, —DerHexer (Talk) 18:45, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@DerHexer: Thank you for setting that up. 1) not sure what everyone else does but as far as I know we have not made any distinction here, logged-in users can send their tax contribution as well as logged-out users. It is a good reminder in any case. 2) okay, let me try to fix the landing page.--Jetam2 (talk) 15:53, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Enabled. —DerHexer (Talk) 17:27, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
