Central Notice Settings

What is the campaign duration?
  • 1st September 2019 → 10th September 2019
Which projects will you be targeting?
  • Not sure of what options combination is possible regarding project/language, help pages are a bit confusing. The banner should be displayed only in French (no translations) and we would like to target:
    • logged in users, restricted to those whose user interface language is set to French, from all projects, worldwide (no geolocation), and
    • logged in users, whatever their user interface language is, geolocalized to FR and french overseas territories, from Commons, Wikidata and all projects with project language prefix within [fr,ar,hyw,hy,als,eu,br,ca,co,ht,vls, frp, lad,lb,nrm,oc,pcd, rmy,ty,wa,yi] (all languages of France). Some projects don't have all the prefixes; if that helps, here are all the existing targeted projects: wikipedia(fr,ar,hyw,hy,als,eu,br,ca,co,ht,vls, frp, lad,lb,nrm,oc,pcd, rmy,ty,wa,yi), wiktionary(fr,ar,eu,br,ca,co,lb,oc,wa,yi), wikisource(fr,ar,eu,br,ca,ht,yi), wikinews(fr,ar,ca), wikiquote(fr,ar,eu,br,ca,co,lb), wikibooks(fr,ar,eu,ca,co,lb,oc,wa), wikiversity(fr,ar), wikivoyage(fr).
    • all logged-in users geolocated into France and French overseas territories, from all projects.

I'm sure this a pretty unusual request, so let me know the technical restrictions and/or if it's to time consuming for CentralNotice's admins to set such a campaign, in order to reshape it if needed.

What languages will you be targeting?
  • see above
Do you wish to show banners to Logged In users, Anonymous Users or Both? Do you want to target users with a specific number of edits or average monthly?
  • Logged In users.

What countries will your campaign target?

  • sea bove

Banner/Campaign Diet:

  • To be determined by Central Notice admin

What is the purpose of the campaign? How will you measure the success of the campaign?

I'll notify the main targeted projects (largest wikipedias, commons, wikidata and some others active projects) later this day. Willie Robert (talk) 09:17, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Willie Robert: Thank you. Please post a link here once you're done. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 11:37, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've prepared a banner. Please have a look and let me know if any changes are necessary. Regarding your proposed targetting. Technically, it's possible to display a banner for all logged-in users geolocated into France, and for all French projects, however, it's more work for a central notice administrator to do. The simplest option would be to display the banner to all logged-in users geolocated into France (and no banner for fr projects visitors outside of France), but if you do think it's necessary to display the banner as-requested, it's definitelly possible. Let me know. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 11:37, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Martin Urbanec. The banner is fine, thank you.
Considering the targeting we have two goals: we aim to reach both 1) French speaking users, worldwide and 2) France and French overseas territories users.
So, your proposition "all logged-in users geolocated into France" is almost fine for the second point (just add overseas territories) and definitely simpler than mine (I'll strike it)!:
But, for the first point, we would need to target logged in users, restricted to those whose user interface preference language is set to French, from all projects, worldwide (that's not equivalent to "all French projects"). For example, we would like to reach an logged in user, geolocated in Canada, reading en.wikipedia.org but with French set as preferred language in his user preferences. Is a targeting based on user interface preferred language possible?
Willie Robert (talk) 14:18, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's also possible. So, would "all users with user language set to fr" do (with no geolocation at all)? --Martin Urbanec (talk) 14:24, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Banner reconfigured. The link above will work now only if your interface language is set to fr, otherwise, no banner will be shown. Note there is uselang=en in the link, you'd have to change that to uselang=fr to test it. Best, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 14:43, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Martin Urbanec: Yes, for our first goal "all users with user language set to fr" do (with no geolocation at all) would do the trick. And for the second goal, "all logged-in users geolocated into France, from all project" is fine. Following this discussion, I modified my proposition above). Willie Robert (talk) 14:54, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, amended for the second time :). --Martin Urbanec (talk) 15:16, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Martin Urbanec: thank so much for your help and patience :) Just a last question: I don't understand well javascript code, but in the MediaWiki template shouldn't be the country codes BL, CP, GF, GP, MF, MQ, NC, PF, PM, RE, TF, WF and YT, been added to FR, in order to reach France and the French overseas territories? Thank you again. Willie Robert (talk) 16:27, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, added. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 16:35, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Pre-approved. Unless the community has objections, looks good to me. I'm going to prepare a banner and post it here for your review. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 11:32, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
