Interaction with some Wikimedia Foundation staff from India is an edition of WikiConverse India organized by A2K. This event focuses on having an interactive session with some of the WMF staff from India, with a special focus on their work and exploring potential areas for collaboration with Indian Wikimedia community members.

A2K recently organized an edition of WikiConverse India, aimed at facilitating an interactive session with some key members of the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) from India. The event, held on 24th July 2023, focused on understanding the WMF's work and exploring potential areas for collaboration with the Indian Wikimedia community.

The event witnessed active participation from 30 members, including representatives from A2K and WMF. Notable speakers included Satdeep Gill, Praveen Das, Vidhu Goyal, and Manavpreet Kaur.

During the session, the WMF staff shared insights into their recent projects, showcasing initiatives that have driven engagement with Indic Languages. Projects like "Wikisource Loves Manuscripts" garnered attention, where OCR technology was employed to facilitate the transcription of handwritten manuscripts, boosting Wikisource community growth.

Participants expressed interest in expanding cross-affiliate collaborations, with A2K emphasizing its support for user groups, thematic organizations, and chapters. WMF staff offered guidance on content collaborations and partnerships, highlighting opportunities for support in improving technical aspects, such as language keyboard fixes.

Satdeep Gill discussed the "Wikisource Loves Manuscripts" project, which focused on solving challenges related to handwritten manuscript transcription. The project aimed to utilize OCR technology to enhance the Wikisource community's growth and provide support for different languages, such as Hindi and Bangla.

Praveen Das shared his passion for Indic Languages and emphasized the importance of content collaboration and partnerships. He highlighted successful collaborations with the Hindi community, wherein they worked with Google to address language keyboard issues.

Vidhu Goyal emphasized the significance of understanding and gathering stories from the Indian communities. She encouraged community members to share their experiences and impact, promoting transparency and proactivity.

Manavpreet Kaur discussed WMF's Affiliate strategy work and invited the community to explore opportunities for expansion, collaboration, and affiliation with WMF.

Overall, the interaction served as a valuable platform for developed mutual understanding and exploring avenues for impactful collaboration between WMF staff, A2K and the Indian Wikimedia community. The session was marked by fruitful discussions and Q&A sessions, where participants engaged with the WMF speakers on various topics.
