As Eleccións do Consello de Administración do ano 2008 levaranse a cabo entre o 1 e o 21 de xuño de 2008. Os membros da comunidade Wikimedia teñen a oportunidade de elixir a un candidato para un período dun ano que culminará en xullo de 2009. O Consello de Administración é a autoridade definitiva da Fundación Wikimedia, unha organización sen ánimo de lucro de tipo 501(c)(3) rexistrada no estado de Florida dos Estados Unidos. A Fundación Wikimedia manexa moitos proxectos diversos, tales como a Wikipedia e Commons.

As eleccións realizaranse nos servidores do sitio Software in the Public Interest. Os votos son secretos e só son visibles para o grupo designado para auditar e facer o escrutinio da elección. (Algúns detalles sobre o sistema de votación están por decidir).

Requirimentos edit

Pode votar desde calquera das súas contas rexistradas nun wiki da Wikimedia (só pode votar unha vez, independentemente de cantas contas teña). Para cualificar como elector ten que:

non estar bloqueado,
non ser un bot,
ter realizado un mínimo de 600 contribucións antes do 1 de marzo de 2008 nese wiki (as contribucións en varios wikis non poden combinarse),
ter realizado un mínimo de 50 contribucións entre o 1 de xaneiro e o 29 de maio nese wiki.

Excepcións especiais: tamén poden votar independentemente dos requirimentos anteriores:

os administradores de servidores da Wikimedia con acceso shell;
o persoal contratado da Fundación Wikimedia que traballa desde antes do 1 de marzo do 2008;
os membros actuais ou antigos do Consello de Administración.

Responsabilidades do Consello edit

O Consello de Administración é polo xeral responsable de:

determining mission, goals, long-term plans and high level policies of the Foundation and its projects;
selecting the Executive Director (who oversees day-to-day operations), and evaluating their performance;
ensuring the sustainability of the organization by defining a number of independent revenue sources;
communicating Foundation direction and activities to the community;
providing oversight to staff with regard to accounting, budgeting, and programs;
maintaining legal and ethical integrity;
recruiting and orienting new Board members.

Within the Board, specific positions with additional responsibilities (such as the Chair, the Executive Secretary, and the Treasurer) are defined in the Wikimedia bylaws and elected annually by and from the Board.

As responsabilidades do Consello non inclúen:

intervir na xestión diaria, agás en situacións extraordinarias;
estabelecer a liña editorial do proxecto;
resolver as leas propias da comunidade;
actuar como voluntario en cuestións especificas refiridas a tarefas de xestión corrente.

Responsabilidades como membro do Consello edit

Ser membro do Consello dunha organización pequena como a Fundación Wikimedia, que representa moitísimos retos, implica adicarlle tempo. O cargo é voluntario e non retribuído. Aínda que non cómpre que aporten cartos de seu para a Fundación, a axuda dos membros do Consello para axudar a mantela é benvida.

Os membros do Consello deben ter polo menos 3 ou 4 reunións en persoa ó ano, asistir á Wikimania (a conferencia anual), e atender a outros encontros programados e votacións na rede. O Consello comunicará a cotío ben por correo electrónico, pola wiki, e pola IRC. Individual trustees sometimes participate in strategic meetings with other organizations and companies, relaying results back to Board and staff.

Individual board members are expected to be involved in certain activities (such as fundraising, Wikimania, or auditing) and to help draft policies, charters and resolutions on such topics.

The ideal Board of Trustees has a mix of different skills: it is composed of big picture thinkers and leaders, non-profit veterans with accounting or legal experience, fund raising experts, and public figures. It is culturally diverse, mirroring the diversity found in the Foundation's project communities. It takes corporate governance seriously while inspiring staff to strive for ambitious but realistic long-term goals.

The role of a Board member is not always the most exciting or most rewarding position imaginable. Much of their work goes unnoticed; some of it is highly confidential, and some purely administrative. On the other hand, it is a unique opportunity to make a difference in one of the most culturally significant organizations on the planet.

Because Board members owe duties by virtue of their position, candidates who currently hold paid positions with the Wikimedia Foundation must resign from those position before they can be appointed to the Board of Trustees. This is to avoid potential conflicts of interests.

Requirimentos para poder presentarse como candidato edit

Para poder presentarse debe cumprir cos seguintes requirimentos:

ter realizado como mínimo 600 edicións antes do 1 de xaneiro de 2008 nalgunha das contas rexistradas nun dos wikis (non se poden sumar as edicións feitas nos diferentes wikis); e
ter feito polo menos 50 edicións entre o 1 de xaneiro e o 1 de xuño de 2008 no devandito wiki; e
revelar publicamente o nome real na presentación da candidatura (debido a que a identidade dos membros do Consello de Administración é pública non é posible ter representación no Consello de Administración anomimamente ou cun pseudónimo); e
ter como mínimo 18 anos e maioría de idade no país de orixe.

Excepcións: os membros actuais do Consello de Administración poden ser candidatos aínda que non cumpran os devanditos requirimentos.

Como presentar a candidatura edit

Se cumpres os requirimentos para ser elixido, podes presentar a túa candidatura facendo o seguinte:

Escribe un breve sumario de non máis de 1200 caracteres stating what you would do if you were elected to the Board of Trustees, your relevant opinions and experience, and anything else you think is relevant. You may not use your candidate summary to link to lists of endorsements or other platform pages, and may not run on a slate with other candidates.
Submit your summary between 00:00, 08 May 2008 (UTC) and 23:59, 22 May 2008 (UTC). After 22 May, it cannot be changed except for minor corrections or translation. Any additions submitted after this deadline will be time-stamped and presented separately from the original summary, and will only be presented to voters if they get translated into all of the same languages as the original summary.
Submit proof of your identity to Cary Bass (Volunteer Coordinator) before 29 May 2008. You will be privately contacted by a member of the Election Committee with further information about meeting this requirement when you list yourself as a candidate.

Candidates who fail to comply with the above requirements and deadlines will be disqualified.
