{{[[Hi there! A new policy from my employer has seen Cloudflare's "1.1.1.1" put on my work computer and iPhone. Is it possible to get this account exempted from this block (here, on en.wp and on commons, although en is basically the only place I really edit) in some way? I have other workarounds I can think of if it's not. Sorry for causing trouble! If I need to ask at en.wp instead of here, please let me know. Thank you! • Not done reviewing this yet, however please note this isn't about the "1.1.1.1" thing which is a DNS provider; this is because your IP is coming from a VPN in the 2A90:BACO:* address space. This may be a browser-based VPN, do you have the ability to just not use that VPN? Regarding your primary concern: not being able to edit the English Wikipedia from this address space: enwiki has project-local block on that VPN range, you would need to ask them for a local IPBE to override it. — xaosflux Talk 15:07, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • I'm not much of a computer expert, so it is possible that there's some sort of new thing added to Chrome by work. I don't think so, but it's possible! The only change I was told about was adding the Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 app – perhaps it's the WARP thing? Sorry, I dunno! But I'll nip over to en.wp and request an unblock there as you suggest. Thank you for your help, @Xaosflux: I'm grateful for your time. Trey Maturin (talk) 15:37, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Trey Maturin From a quick read, it seems that you using that "WARP" version. In general, use of VPN's is disallowed when contributing to WMF projects without a good reason. Project will need to determine if your reason of wanting to use someone else's computer (your employer's cmoputer that uses this) is a sufficiently good reason or not. — xaosflux Talk 15:49, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • That seems fair to me – if having this 'WARP' thing on a somehow-exempted user account would present potential vandalism or security problems for the community, then I'll just have to edit at home rather than at work during quiet times! The Project is a little bit bigger than just one wikignome! It's a pity (for me), but that's how it is. Thanks again for your time on this! Trey Maturin (talk) 15:58, 7 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Queering Wikipedia 2023 conference

edit

Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group and the organizing team of Queering Wikipedia is delivering the Queering Wikipedia 2023 Conference for LGBT+ Wikimedians and allies, as a hybrid, bilingual and trans-local event. It is online on 12, 14 and 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia #IDAHOBIT, with offline events at around 10 locations on 5 continents in the 5-day span as QW2023 Nodes.

The online program is delivered as a series of keynotes, panels, presentations, workshops, lightning talks and creative interventions, starting on Friday noon (UTC) with the first keynote of Dr Nishant Shah entitled: I spy, with my little AI — Wikiway as a means to disrupt the ‘dirty queer’ impulses of emergent AI platforms. Second keynote is at Sunday’s closure by Esra’a Al Shafei, Wikimedia Foundation’s Board of Trustees vice chair, entitled: Digital Public Spaces for Queer Communities.

If you have been an active Wikimedian or enthusiast, supporting LGBT+ activities or if you identify as part of the larger LGBT+ community and allies in Wikimedia, please join us in advancing this thematic work. We encourage you to join online or in person with fellow Wikimedians if it is easy and safe to do so. Our working languages are English and Spanish, with possible local language support at sites of Nodes.

Registration for the online event is free and is open until Wednesday May 10th at 18:00 UTC, for safety protocol. Late event registration approval and event access denial is at the discretion of organizers.

More information, and registration details, may be found on Meta at QW2023
