edit

The following scatter plot with data from World Bank shows how world regions differ in internet reach and mobile subscriptions, each per 100 (adults?).
Countries are colored by geographic region. Data have been collected via the World Bank API (open licensed).

The following World Bank metrics show how internet reach (both in internet users per 100 (adults?) and mobile subscriptions per 100 (adults?)) develops over the years.
Countries are grouped by geographic region. Same data as above.

Notes

edit
  • In a few cases no data for 2016 were available.
  • In a few cases values for 2016 existed but were lower than values for 2011. The stacked bar charts ignore decreases.
It's not known whether these decreases represent real changes, or were caused by changes in methodology (e.g. more precise measurements)
Most notable decreases in mobile subscriptions, 2011-2016 (> 20%):

    • Dominica 152% -> 107%
    • Finland 166% -> 133%
    • Laos 87% -> 59%
    • Libya 161% -> 122%
    • Madagascar 40% -> 32%
    • Panama 182% -> 127%
    • Saint Lucia 125% -> 99%
    • Saudi Arabia 191%-> 149%
