About Vienna edit

Vienna is the capital and largest city of Austria with a population of about 1.8 million. The city lies in the east of Austria and is close to the borders of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. Vienna is host to many major international organizations, including the United Nations and OPEC.

According to a survey by Mercer, Vienna has been the leading city concerning quality of living for several years in a row, one important aspect was Vienna's status as one of the safest metropolitan areas worldwide. Vienna is also LGTB friendly and proud of it - not only during the yearly Life Ball or recently as the host of the Eurovision Song Contest. Public transport in Vienna as well the conference venue stand out due to high accessibility standards.

Currency edit

Austria’s currency is the Euro (EUR, €). Please consider that changing money at Euro change offices is usually rather expensive compared to withdrawal at a cash machine. Currency exchange offices are to be found at Vienna Airport and at tourist hotspots throughout Vienna.

Credit cards and bank cards are accepted in larger chains and at some smaller shops, we highly recommend to carry some money in cash though.

Electricity Access edit

In Austria plug type F (230V at 50 Hz), also known as Schuko plug, is used. Please bring your adapter if needed!

Internet Access edit

Free wireless network access at the conference venue and hotel. Free WiFi is also accessible at most café and restaurants.

  • Mobile Simcards (usually no ID required):
    • 3 offers prepaid plan for mobile data as well for phone calls. Can be bought at any 3 store.
    • Bob offers prepaid plans for mobile data as well for phone calls. Can be bought at any post office.
