Arctic Knot 2021

edit

Like last year (when it was called Celtic Knot), there was a presentation about Wikisource at the Arctic Knot Conference 2021 in June 2021 (proposal and slides, video on YouTube). VIGNERON started a general introduction, then Satdeep Gill, Bodhisattwa, Carma citrawati and Bayu Gita talked about Balinese and Bengali communities on Wikisource. This year, the presentation was followed by workshop led by Assassas77. The full 90 minutes session was recorded and is available on Youtube.

Wikimania 2021

edit

During the virtual Wikimania 2021, there were two Wikimania Unconference meetups:

Our users participated in both of them.

Źródłosłów 2021

edit

Wikisource (Wikiźródła) session at Źródłosłów 2021

After two year break due to COVID-19 pandemic the Polish Wikisource & Wiktionary communities conference Źródłosłów was organized on September 10–12 in Warsaw by Wikimedia Polska in cooperation with Wikisource & Wiktionary communities and with support of Biblioteka Publiczna m.st. Warszawy. Wikisource community users took active part in co-organizing the Conference (eg. Ankry was responsible for the program and almost all points of the agenda were prepared by community members). This year the Wikisource community decided also to invite a guest lecturer from Jagiellonian University in Cracow.

To provide better security for participants, the conference was held in hybrid (in person + online) mode and few presentations were remote.

The Wikisource part of the Conference program focused mostly on technical issues, like Wikidata-Wikisource integration, typographic issues, simplifying project finishing for newcomers, etc. Also the lack of documentation for newcommers was discussed. Participants familiarize themselves with problems of search for rare books and their identification, they visited Mazowiecka Biblioteka Cyfrowa digital library where they observed and participated in professional book digitizing process.

One of the conference results was the community decision to organize monthly "green week" ("zielony tydzień") when the community focuses on finishing as many unfinished Wikisource projects as possible.
