Wikipedia for Peace: We can [edit]!
Kötschach-Mauthen (Austria), 2-10 August 2019
About the project
Let’s make women*, trans and non-binary people more visible on Wikipedia! Only about 17% of all biographies on the English language Wikipedia are about women* – and an estimated 90% of all contributors to Wikipedia are men*, even though it is a volunteering project that is open to everybody. We want to change that! In this Wikipedia for Peace project, we will learn how to write Wikipedia articles and will get to know the inspiring biographies of amazing activists fighting for peace, environmental justice, LGBT+ rights, civil rights and other burning issues to make our planet a better place.
We will be a group of 20 young people living in Armenia, Austria, Germany and Spain. From 2nd to 10th August 2019, we will live together in a simple hostel in Kötschach-Mauthen, a small mountain village in the Austrian Alps. Our common language will be English. Apart from editing Wikipedia and discussing gender equality, we will cook together, go hiking and get to know each other. The camp is organised by Wikimedia Austria, the Austrian chapter of the worldwide non-profit foundation behind Wikipedia.
