Wikipedia Outreach Program at en:Kathmandu University

Outreach program was organized for the students and faculties from Far-Western region of Nepal in Kathmandu University. The students from different disciplines were participated and were eager to know about the Wikipedia. Number of participants was 24 and 3 Wikipedians have facilitated the program. The aim of program was to disseminate the information about Wikipedia, practice of developing Wikis in different languages in Nepal. And to share experiences in and status of Dotyali Wikipedia/Wiktionary.

Strategy Meetup in Kathmandu, Nepal

The Affiliate-led events for Movement Strategy discussions was held on the 5th August 2017, at Kathmandu, Nepal. The Wikimedia movement wise movement-wide strategy discussion, a process which will run throughout 2017. On this discussion people participated from different background like editors, community leaders, affiliates, developers, readers, technology platforms, institutional partners, media and Bureaucrats.

  • 17 Students learnt skills such as :
    • Typing in Nepali
    • Five Pillars of Wikipedia
    • Critically Analyze the wikipedia articles and ask for the references
    • Add needed references in the articles to verify certain claims
    • Upload Images and add it to the existing articles and Illustrate them
    • Make a copy edit
    • Create new article and complete it with all the components.
  • School and Students were engaged and excited, School Demanded for the next session of the course for the teachers only.

Wiki Loves Monuments 2017 in Nepal

Wiki Loves Monuments is an international photographic competition to promote cultural monuments around the World through Wikimedia projects (mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons). Starting from the Netherlands in 2010, organized on a European level in 2011 and went global in 2012.

- We got 17 th position among 52 country with total 3166 photos upload
- 103 Uploader take participation, where 69 (66%) were newly registered
- More than 11+ photowalk were organized inside Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavre, Rajbiraj, Janakpur and other parts of Nepal
- We organized first time photoride, traveled 80 km+ uptown in 12 hrs and visited 4 major Locations and 161+ monument sites

Wikipedia Outreach Program at Nepal Telecom Training Center

The Outreach program was targeted to Retired and Veteran employees of Nepal Telecom. And the program was conducted at Nepal Telecom Training Center, Babarmahal, Kathmandu. The aim of program was to share information about the Wikipedia and discuss on the role of Retired and Veteran employees for the creation of world's largest encyclopedia. Number of participants was 17; the names of participants is listed here in the participant section.

Data-a-thon 2017

Wikiproject Data-a-thon 2017 is an annual online/offline event designed and organized by Wikimedians in Nepal since 2015. In 2017, Wikimedians of Nepal and Maithili Wikimedians are collaboratively working with Open Knowledge Nepal (OKN) as co-host under Global Legislative Openness Week (GLOW) supported by non-profit organization mySociety.
