During this time the Wikimedians of Indiana User Group hosted around 22 events and trainings, resulting in over 200 participants in total.
Projects
Throughout the year the Wikimedians of Indiana User Group partnered with local organizations to host events around Central Indiana.
Hoosier Women in Art editathon, March 17, 2023
editIn collaboration with the Stout Reference Library at Newfields, the Wikimedians of Indiana User Group helped organize an editathon for Hoosier Women in Art. During this event participants went through training and then focused on editing articles on female Hoosier artists and works, female artists and works represented in Newfields' collection.
The dashboard for this event is available here. Overall, 7 articles were created during this event and numerous edits were made to expand existing articles. Two articles were written about women artists who contributed to the Black Lives Matter street mural (Indianapolis), Ess McKee and Shamira Wilson, who also had art exhibited at Newfields during the time of this editathon.
Hoosier Women at Work, November 2, 2023
editINhistoryMaker and Thedailyclark of the Indiana State Library and Historical Bureau helped organize an Hoosier Women at Work editathon that took place on Thursday, November 2nd from 11 am–3 pm at the Indiana State Library. The Indiana State Library and Historical Bureau in collaboration with the Wikimedians of Indiana User Group created a worklist to identify content gaps within Wikipedia where Hoosier women were missing.
The event dashboard is available here. An article for Gertrude Amelia Mahorney, the first documented African American women to graduate from an Indiana college or university, was created during this event along with two other articles.
Irvington Historical Society editathon, January 20, 2023
editAnne46219 of the Bona Thompson Memorial Center helped organize anIrvington Historical Society Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on Saturday, January 20 from 10 am–2:30 pm. The focus of this event was to expand articles about the Irvington Historic District (Indianapolis).
During this event an article was created for Howard C. Caldwell Jr., who lived in Irvington. He is known for being the first U.S. journalist to interview Indira Gandhi.
Crispus Attucks Museum editathon, February 29, 2024
editAn editathon was held at the Crispus Attucks Museum located inside Crispus Attucks High School on Thursday, February 29th from 1 pm – 3:30 pm. This editathon focused on Crispus Attucks Museum collections, and notable alumni and related individuals.
During this event the article for Crispus Attucks Museum was expanded. Articles on alumni were improved. The creation of an article about the Senate Avenue YMCA was started.
WikiConference North America, 2024
editThe Wikimedians of Indiana User Group will be hosting WikiConference North America in Indianapolis October 3-6th 2024. We are working with our GLAM Partners to offer a unique experience for North American editors in Indianapolis including a Culture Crawl on October 3rd and other activities sponsored and supported by our network. Partners include the Indiana State Library, en:Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library, Indiana University Indianapolis University Library, and others.

With generous funding from the Central Indiana Community Foundation’s (CICF) Library Fund provided to University Library, the Wikimedians of Indiana User group has been able to increase the capacity of central Indiana institutions to engage with Wikipedia by working together on programs such as staff training, contributing digital collections images to Wikimedia Commons, holding public editing events, and more.
