Description of activities and learning edit

Each of the programmes have their objectives (listed on grant page). This section will describe how the activities during the 1st Quarter lead contributed towards their fulfillment.

Educational Programme edit

Education Programme

Goals met by this activity

The goals of the education program is to expand the knowledge and inform larger share of the population about Wikipedia and all Wikimedia projects. Thus, for that purpose, we have expanded the education program to three levels: 1) activities carried out in the Josip Broz - Tito Grammar School for the fourth consecutive year; 2) start with an education program in the in the upper classes in "Krume Kepeski" Primary School and 3) lectures in the Wiki Club at American Corner Skopje and Bitola.

Some considerations

Considering the diversity of the three levels of implementation of the Education program, the activities that are being implemented are of different kind: 1) Editing competition in Josip Broz - Tito Grammar School, 2) Lectures in "Krume Kepeski" Primary School and 3) gradual familiarization through presentations and editing activities on the lectures in the Wiki Club at American Corner Skopje and Bitola. Because of that, the overall results, outcome and metrics of the Education Program may vary from the goals set in the Annual Plan, so their impact should be summed on a wider time scale.

Geoexpeditions

Goals met by this activity

By this activity we aimed to discover as much as possible unknown or less known geographical locations and features in Macedonia on remote places with difficult access. Considering that the main aim of the Geoexpeditions in 2018 is the same as the previous two years of conducting this project where the mountains their peaks and all other their features have the primary attention. Thus, we started with a Winter Geoexpedition on Šar Mountain as well as several field trips were realized

Some considerations

Geoexpeditions this year were conducted with a close collaboration and support from mountaineering club "Transverzalec", with experienced hikers which gives the opportunity to expand the cooperation of Wikipedia with different groups of science, dispute and society and to draw attention and bring new volunteers and contributors to Wikimedia projects from this community.

Editing competition

Goals met by this activity

With the editing competitions, we are joining forces to create as many articles as possible within a certain longer time period. A jury then decides the winners, who are awarded. This quarter we organized 1 editing competition with considerable outcome of 24 created and 45 improved articles by 12 editors who participated.

Some considerations

Considering our aim to reach the number of 100.000 articles on Macedonian Wikipedia and improving their quality (to be as much close to the other most developed and numerous Wikipedia's language editions) we decided the topic of the competition to be "1000 articles every Wikipedia should have". Thanks to our editing competition titled 1000 articles every Wikipedia should have that end on 4th of March, Macedonian Wikipedia jump from 38th to 34th place of all Wikipedia language editions per this criteria.

Edit-a-thons

Goals met by this activity

The edit-a-thons aim to increase community spirit in working towards a common goal on a certain topic that has been agreed as being of importance. Quality is improved both by covering missing topics and by extending existing articles. In this first quarter we held 2 edit-a-thons (1 regularly held according by our program + 1 co-organized).

Some considerations

Regarding that this type of activity is organized somewhere outside with a group of newly registered or less skilled and familiar users in accordance with the interested groups we chose the topics, days and venues for the edit-a-thons. The first edit-a-thon "Velo-city" was organized with the cyclists-members of the Critical Mass / NaTo4ak initiative by our provisioned program for work while the second was co-organized with „NGO Iskra“ (granted by the Wikimedia Foundation) on the topic: Persons with disabilities, ie with cerebral palsy (see more). The president and members of the NGO "Iskra" which is granted by the Wikimedia Foundation have already contacted and were invited to attend our events such as Wiki Loves Food 2017 ceremony, edit-a-thon "VeloCity" and WikiClub at American Corner lectures after which they where supported logistically by our knowledge with know how, information and other stuff, thus on the edit-a-thon our organization helped also with presentation and instruction of the participants for editing, creating articles and working on Wikipedia.

Editing weekends

Goals met by this activity

With our editing weekends, we encouraged Wikipedians to devote more of their free time in writing on relevant topics for the duration of a given weekend. Considering that and having in mind the aim to reach the number od 100.000 articles on Macedonian Wikipedia this first quarter we had 4 editing weekends where 11 users participated creating 78 new articles and 6 templates which indicates that we met the goal.

Some considerations

Considering our aim to reach the number od 100.000 articles on Macedonian Wikipedia and improving their quality (to be as much close to the other most developed and numerous Wikipedia's language editions) and to be linked to current events in the world we decided the topics to be: "Croatia", "Korea", "Winter Olympic Sports", "Medalists of the Winter Olympic Games" and "Mountains".

Editing days

Goals met by this activity

With our editing days, we encouraged Wikipedians to devote more of their free time in writing on relevant topics for the duration of a given day. Considering that this first quarter we had 4 editing days where 18 users (8 different editors) participated we met the goal.

Some considerations

Considering our aim to reach the number od 100.000 articles on Macedonian Wikipedia and improving their quality (to be as much close to the other most developed and numerous Wikipedia's language editions) we chose the topics to be, as follows: "Coins for collector purposes", "Archaeological sites in the region of Sveti Nikola", "Ice Hockey Team Squads of the Winter Olympics 2018" and "Pantomime".

Partnerships edit

Wiki Industry

Goals met by this activity

The principal goal of Wiki Industry project is to make visits to industrial capacities and document the manufacture and production process in different industries as well as the final products, equipment, machinery. Additionally, the aim of this project is also people involved and employed in the industries to be familiarized with Wikipedia and Wikimedia projects in informational and educational, non-commercial and non-marketing purposes.

Some considerations

Having in mind the developing economy of Macedonia the outcome and impact of this project providing information and knowledge about specific industries, production process, machinery and notable enterprises gives support for the industries, education and incentive to entrepreneurship.

Wiki Beer

Goals met by this activity

The activities of the Wikibeer project are set to be oriented towards documenting the country's history and culture in producing beer by partnering with local breweries. The project members previously experienced from the Wikiwine and Wikirakija projects made two visits to breweries and documented the production process as well as the different types of beer produced.

Some considerations

First two visits were oriented on the smaller craft beer community which we estimated that information shared through Wikipedia will support and improve their work thus the first visit was organized within the first Crafting beer saloon while the was realized the second visit of the craft brewery "Temov" in Skopje's Old Bazaar.
