    Overview

    Wikimedia Nigeria Imo State Network is a group of volunteers in Imo State focused on contributing to Wikimedia and it's sister projects. This network is an arm of the Wikimedia User Group Nigeria and our mission is to raise committed individuals who are passionate about bridging the knowledge gap by increasing the quantity and quality of articles and multimedia materials, as well as promote our Igbo indigenous language. We achieve this through various activities including training sessions, workshops, edit-a-thons, campaigns, GLAMs, and Wikipedia Education programs. We are also open to collaborations and partnerships with groups or knowledge-sharing individuals that share same objectives.

    • To promote Wikimedia projects by organizing campaigns and edit-a-thons in Imo State.
    • To train volunteers on how to contribute to Wikimedia projects.
    • To promote the continuous improvement and creation of contents across Wikimedia projects.
    • To organize both virtual and in-person gatherings of Wikimedians in Imo State.

    The South East edit-a-thon is an initiative of the Wikimedia Hub Owerri, Imo state Nigeria to introduce and empower members of the hub to Wikipedia and its sister projects, in order to ensure their effectiveness and active participation and engagement. See event page for further details.

    Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos 2021

    Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos is an online campaign joined by Wikimedians in Imo state to add photos to articles lacking images. This is to promote the use of digital media files collected from various photography contests, organized by the Wikimedia community, on Wikipedia article pages. Photos improve readers experience, illustrate content, and make articles engaging. The campaign would also helps sharpen the skills of new and existing editors. For more details, see event page.

    Wiki Loves Africa 2021

    Wiki Loves Africa is an annual contest where anyone across Africa can contribute media (images, video and audio) that relates to that year's theme to Wikimedia Commons, for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation. Each year the theme changes and is chosen by the community from universal, visually-rich and culturally-specific topics (for example, markets, rites of passage, festivals, public art, cuisine, natural history, urbanity, daily life, notable persons, etc). This year's theme of the contest focused on "Health and Wellness". For more details on uploads and winners, see event page.

    Wiki For Human Rights 2022 in Nigeria

    WikiForHumanRights 2022 in Nigeria supports the global campaign with a similar national campaign in Nigeria to improve and contribute to Wikipedia, stories of rights which enable safe and stable climate, healthy ecosystems and a non-toxic Environment in Nigeria. Hence, stories of Nigerian environmental defenders, Nigerian legal systems/treaties about human rights and environmental rights, and Nigerian organizations championing environmental protection among others are improved by participants.     Wiki Loves Earth 2022

    Wiki Loves Earth is an international photography competition organized to promote natural heritage sites around the world through Wikimedia projects (mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons) by uploading quality images. Everyone is welcome to get involved, whether as a participant (photographer), organizational volunteer, or both. For more details and uploads made during the eent, see project page.

    WikiVibrance International Youth Day 2022

    The International Youth Day (IYD) provides an opportunity to draw attention to young peoples' voices, actions, initiatives and meaningful engagement. The WikiVibrance Project connects young people globally on to demonstrate our capacity in growing knowledge in the digital space by working together to bridge content gaps on specific themes on Wikimedia projects. The project leverages on the existing Wikimedia communities to create synergies, knowledge sharing and capacity building opportunities as a means to amplify the continuous collective efforts of young Wikimedians to promote open knowledge.     Wiki Loves Africa is an annual event that provides a platform for Wikimedians to capture images, audio, and videos in line with a defined theme. The WLA 2024 theme, "Africa creates" which we engaged in was aimed at enhancing Wikimedia platforms with a vivid representation of the creative tapestry unique to Imo State, fostering a more comprehensive and diverse global showcase. By encouraging documentation of local creations, innovations, and contributions through photowalks and tours, the event not only showcases the richness of Imo State's cultural landscape but also contributes to a broader understanding of Africa's creative diversity on the global stage.     WikiVibrance International Youth Day 2024

The main goal of IYD is to draw attention to the issues faced by youth, celebrate their achievements, and encourage their meaningful engagement in various spheres of life.     International Day for the Elimination of Violence against women at Imo State Network 2024

    On November 25th each year, the world observes the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This project focuses on enhancing articles related to domestic violence, sexual harassment, rape, female genital mutilation, and human trafficking, as well as creating Wikidata entries for activists and advocates of this cause. It also aims to raise awareness of a world where women and girls can live without fear or violence—a world where gender equality is realized, and human rights are upheld.
