Community calls

We believe there is a need for a space for discussion, involving community members from emerging communities, experienced Wikimedians, decision-makers at different levels, and representatives from affiliates and other communities.

The goal of community calls is to celebrate the achievements in new communities, share experience and connect across geographic and linguistic barriers.

Consultation calls

This is an offer to language communities: Connect with us to set up a call between us and your community, share some of your challenges in advance, and we will invite experts on that topic to join the call. Learning from the call will be documented, to make sure that others can also learn from this call.

  • Advocate for increased support for new language projects beyond incubation, emphasizing their representation in Wikidata, Commons, and other platforms.
  • Bridge the gap between language communities and the Wikimedia Foundation, assisting in grant applications, project proposals, and securing funding.
• Technical and Human Support:
  • Connect communities with experts in various technical areas.
  • Assist communities in finding funding beyond rapid grants.
  • Provide technical support throughout the incubation process and beyond.
  • Raise awareness about existing language support available by the language team.
  • Offer training on the MediaWiki platform, Wikitools, and software creation.
  • Develop onboarding systems for new languages and communities.
  • Providing a pathway for the sustainability of new languages in the Wikimedia ecosystem. “Connecting dots”
  • Amplify/promote Wikimedia language projects that are being implemented by individuals and language communities.
