Wikimedia Japan-Türkiye Friendship

Wikimedia Japan-Türkiye Friendship is a project organized by Wikimedians who are active in Turkish or Japanese Wikimedia community. This project aims to enrich Wikimedia contents about Türkiye or Japan and strengthen the collaboration between the two communities.

In February 2023, Japanese Wikimedian Eugene Ormandy introduced Üsküdar University Wikipedia Student Club in his Diff article "University student Wikipedian communities around the world". In August 2023, Eugene Ormandy met Turkish Wikimedian and Founder of Istanbul Bilgi University Wikipedia Student Club Caner at Wikimania 2023 and hit it off. After the event, on September 8, they launched this project.

  • Strengthening the collaboration between two communities

September 9, 2023 Caner and Eugene Ormandy launched a project called "Wikimedia Japan-Türkiye Friendship"

September 11, 2023 Caner translated Eugene Ormandy's Diff post "Taufik Rosman and Eugene Ormandy were interviewed by BBC" into Turkish. [6]

June 19, 2024 Eugene Ormandy wrote a Diff post entitled "Web NDL Authorities の SPARQL エンドポイントを活用してトルコ文学に関するウィキデータ項目を改善してみた" on Japanese Diff. In the article, Eugene introduced how to improve Wikidata items related to Turkish literature using Web NDL Authorities, the authority data of National Diet Library Japan (NDL). [3]
August 10, 2024 Eugene Ormandy, Y. Caner Özyayıkçı and Taufik Rosman presented “Wikimedia Friendship between Japan, Malaysia and Turkey” at Wikimania 2024 Katowice.
September 1, 2024 A month-long Wiki edit-a-thon on Japan - Malaysia and Türkiye has started.
