Comments from participants
edit- I made an article of 宮武正道 (Seido Miyatake), who edited Japan-Malay dictionaries. It was a good opportunity for me to learn about Malaysia and to talk with Malaysian Wikimedians. Thank you so much. —Eugene Ormandy (talk) 10:34, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
- I made an article of The Garden of Evening Mists (film), a film about a traumatised Malaysian female victim of Japanese war crimes during the Second World War and a Japanese male gardner (played by Abe Hiroshi, one of my favourite Japanese actors). It was relatively easy to make this article because the film and the novel on which it was based are both available in Japanese and I had no trouble in transcribing Malaysian names in Japanese. However, we (the members of this project in Japan) definetely need more resources about Malaysia if we would like to continue Japan-Malaysia editathons. Even a few books on Malaysia and a few people who can read one of the languages of Malaysia would be greatly helpful for us to keep this project alive. I hope that we can find some help from academic institutions or experts in the future.--さえぼー (talk) 10:53, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your suggestion, さえぼー (Saebou)! We will try to find a good way.--Eugene Ormandy (talk) 09:26, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
- I made ja:マレーシア・イスラーム美術館 (Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia), a museum in Kuala Lumpur that focuses on Islamic art. I have lond had an interest in both Islam and museum, so I enjoyed making this article. Thank you for organizing this editathon! --Takenari Higuchi (talk) 09:46, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
- I created ja:ケネス・マーチソン (Kenneth Murchison), a colonial governor of Malaysia in the early 19th century; and uploaded his portrait to Commons. Usually my edits are focused on the United Kingdom so it is about the right time to explore new areas. Guess I might write some more during the Asian month. Thank you for organizing! ネイ (talk) 11:28, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
- I added the information to the article of サイド・プトラ (Putra of Perlis), the third Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaya. Through this experience I could know not only about his life, but also many aspect of Malaysia. He visited my elementary school during his visit to Japan in 1964. Although I only saw him from afar, it brought back fond memories for me. --Wadakuramon (talk) 09:23, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- I enjoyed learning about the interesting locations and celebrations in Japan that are not often portrayed in media. I created Gunung Wakakusa and Taman Nara. I hope to learn more interesting things as more editathons are held. --Ultron90 (talk) 07:41, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
Acknowledgements
editFrom Malaysian participants
editThank you to all the participants as well as observers who attended the event. The Malaysians Wikipedians gained a lot of new knowledge regarding Japan and its people. May future events also bring great benefits to both communities as well as mutually strengthening our bonds.
From Japanese participants
editIt was a fabulous event. We really enjoyed to learn about Malaysian culture, contribute to Wikimedia projects and have a conversation with Malaysian friends. Thank you to all the Wikimedians who join this editathon. We can't wait to have next!
