What is the project about?

edit

Millions of people read Wikipedia and use the information in a variety of ways. But within the Wikipedia communities very little is known about who our readers are, which interests and patterns of use they have, which of their needs are being met and which ones are not (yet).

Debate on this topic is also in its infancy. There is a similar situation with Wikipedia’s sister projects.

This project should create the basis needed for such a debate, make a range of information available and develop ways to effectively incorporate these questions into the consensus-building processes within the communities.

How will this project help us meet our annual goals?

edit

Achieving the goal of improving information about the interests of Wikipedia readers (or of its sister projects) requires, first of all, a concept.

It should illustrate, on the one hand, how relevant information can be gathered and, on the other, the appropriate channels through which this information can be directed to relevant places.

What is also important here is identifying the needs that have to be met, in order for the offerings of members of active communities to be viewed as interesting and useful.

What are the key milestones along the way and by when should we reach them?

edit
No. When What
1. September 2, 2013 Publication of a concept that addresses the methods and content of the surveys as well as how the results will be communicated within the communities in relevant places.
2. September, 2013 Presentation and discussion of the concept at the 2013 WikiConvention.
3. October 1, 2013 Adoption of a resolution on possible follow-up projects.
