Wikimedia Community User Group Uganda/GLAM-Wiki 2023 Microgrant

The Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAM) programme is offering funding for locally based projects in the different fields of GLAM. A selected applicant(s) will receive up to UGX 1,500,000 to implement a project/activity in the course of 2023.

Eligibility edit

Grant applications and reports should be submitted in English and the following basic criteria must be met by all applicants for a proposal to be considered:

  1. The project must be implemented within Uganda and should be realized between 01 May and 01 September 2023;
  2. The eligible project must be led by an individual or group of individuals living in Uganda ;
  3. The project needs to be GLAM-themed;
  4. The individual or group of individuals must have an active account on any of the Wikimedia Foundation projects for at least 6 months and this account should not be blocked;
  5. Proposals to improve third-party applications or services are not eligible for funding and will not be considered;
  6. Applicants must be in good standing with respect to ethical behavior within the community (e.g. social behavior, financial behavior, legal behavior, etc.)
  7. Proposals should aim to improve one or more of Wikimedia's existing websites, but preferably Wikipedia , Wikidata and/or Wikimedia Commons or a combination of all three;
  8. Funds are typically for direct expenses and not used to pay for peoples' time. We support volunteer participation. Please note that participation that is tied to paid work is not eligible for funding.
  9. You must agree to the reporting requirements, be willing to sign a grant agreement and provide WMUGU with information needed to process your funding.
  10. Activities or expenses that have already taken place at the time of application are ineligible for funding

This call for projects targets

  1. Clean-up of existing GLAM content e.g adding references and pictures on Wikipedia articles ;
  2. Creation of new articles on Wikipedia ;
  3. Creation of new items on Wikidata ;
  4. Contribution of quality images on Wikimedia Commons ;
  5. Adding value to existing information e.g Adding images to Wikipedia Articles

Eligible costs edit

The costs eligible under this call are:

  • Internet connection fees/data bundles
  • Minimal transport costs for local travel (project planning, execution and follow-up)
  • Meals for in-person gatherings
  • Equipment rental (e.g a projector, a camera)
  • Rent of a space for a gathering
  • Certificates of participation / attendance
  • Minimal registration/ entry fees to a facility

DO NOT INCLUDE edit

Non re-usable/one time use material that could be wasted e.g single-use banner(s), printed documents
