Wikimedia Community User Group Kenya/Art & Feminism 2024

The Art n Feminism workshop in Kenya is a 1-day event that seeks to host a panel discussion and an audience comprising of University Lecturers, Students and Community based Organization for a conversation on Gender Based Violence. The Workshop will create collaboration between Wikimedia Community User Group Kenya and other potential partners in the Coastal region of Kenya as we seek to introduce more editors to Wikipedia in the region.

The Wikimedia UserGroup Kenya has been keen on championing diversity and growing swahili wikipedia, hence from 2022, our projects have spread to the coastal region of Kenya, which is home to native, indegenous swahili communities.

Goals & Objectives

• Raise awareness about GBV
• Advocacy on existing laws and policies on GBV
• Showcasing rampart & common GBV cases in Kenya
• kickstart a conversation on GBV in institutions of higher learning
• Improve Articles on GBV
• Recruit 20 new Wikipedia Editors

Expected Outcome

• Successful & open dialogues on GBV in learning institutions
• Have empowered and informed citizens
• Successful documentation of the engagements (written & recorded)
• Content - snippets of folks talking about GBV in different forms?
• Online engagement

Activities

    Art Contest ahead of the workshop.

The Students at selected Universities will hold an Art contest themed End Gender Violence. The students' will have a chance to express themselves Artistically on how they understand #GBV.
