This is the wikipage for the Wikimedia user group of Ethiopia
Welcome to the Wikimedia User Group Ethiopia, a network of Wikimedians committed to fostering the development and engagement, in Wikimedia initiatives throughout Ethiopia. This user group acts as a platform for teamwork education, and community engagement efforts designed to enable individuals, in Ethiopia to take part in the advancement of knowledge sharing.
Objectives
The main goal of the Wikimedia User Group Ethiopia is to support a community of Wikimedia contributors, in Ethiopia through engaging in initiatives that encourage sharing knowledge and collaboration, in editing content on the platform. Our aims involve;
- We aim to increase knowledge of Wikimedia projects by hosting gatherings and workshops as engaging in outreach initiatives, across Ethiopia.
- Bringing Ethiopian Wikimedians together to foster a community dedicated to sharing knowledge and connecting individuals and organizations in a collaborative effort.
- We work together with the Wikimedia community to share our practices and ideas while contributing to various global initiatives, within Wikimedia.
- We are dedicated, to supporting Ethiopians in gaining the expertise needed to edit and add content to platforms like Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects such, as Wikisource and Wikidata.
- We host, in person gatherings and meetups for Ethiopian Wikimedians to come together and bond over shared experiences while working on projects.
Activities
Group activities
Wikimedia User Group Ethiopia plans to host outreach events, such as edit-a-thons and training sessions, around the country where experienced editors and newcomers can contribute to the Wikimedia projects together. We also plans to work with institutions to improve the quality of content on Wikipedia:
- Wikimedia Workshops – to help new Wikipedians learn editing techniques, the policies and guidelines of the different Wikimedia platforms and tools to increase their productivity.
- Meetings – for the Wikimedians in Ethiopia to exchange ideas and to check what support do they need to continue editing Wikipedia.
- Editing contests/Edit-a-thons – to encourage existing users edit Wikipedia and to encourage non-users join and enrich content about Ethiopia or work on and develop a certain topic..
- Photography trips and contests – to encourage users upload photos to Commons.
History
- Ever since it started out the Wikimedia User Group Ethiopia has been dedicated to developing a community of writers and creators of content. A key milestone, in the days was the coordination of a workshop by Wikimedia in May 2016 setting the stage, for upcoming projects focused on increasing involvement nationwide.
