Wikimedia CH/Micro Grant/Buying two camera lenses to complete the copy stand

Your Username: ChristophZ

Your Country of residence: Switzerland

Amount requested: CHF 443.90

Composed of:

  • 185.90 for the Nikon nikkor 28mm, f2,8 af
  • 258.00 for the Nikon Micro-Nikkor AF 60 mm F2.8

Planned activity:

The associated Public Domain Project uses a photography copy table to photograph the cover art and the center labels of audio records. This is a needed step during cataloguing and digitizing of our 78 rpm records. For this we have a copy stand at hand, which is much faster than the A4 scanner we used in earlier years.

Example made with the described setup: StamperID-Ngoma-1493-j2990.jpg

The copy stand consists of the following equipment (Image of it):

  • Copy table
  • Nikon D610 digital SLR camera
  • Nikon nikkor 28mm, f2,8 af
  • Nikon Micro-Nikkor AF 60 mm F2.8
  • Two Kaiser lamps
  • PC with tethering software for preview and to remote control the camera
  • Accessories like colour calibration chart, a macrophotography bellows etc.

Currently the two camera lenses are owned by SOS ETH, the student association we are working with. Because we had to move our office to a smaller building, we are not able to use the copy stand at the moment. We would like to move it to another office close to the place where we store our record collection. To be able to do that, we have to buy the lenses from the student association. The lenses are in very good condition and proven to be working and suitable for our work.

People involved
(e.g. How many people can benefit from the micro grant you request):

5, Carlo Flisch and the people from Specialsterne who help us in digitizing.

Plus Wikipedians who wish to use our copy stand for other works, as it is possible now and at the new location in Rüti ZH.

Please explain what influence your activity will have on Wikimedia Projects
(e.g. quantitative: number of new pictures uploaded to commons, no of new articles created / qualitative: strengthen the community of german-speaking wikipedia authors etc,):

With the help of the people from Specialsterne in fall 2016 we digitized around 600 records, all of them need to be photographed. This images will be made available to Commons like the audio files. During 2017 a planned activity is the cataloguing of our whole record collection (photographing and transcription of title, author, label, catalogue number etc.), we don't know yet how many of the 55 000 records we are able to photograph during this year because this depends also on other funding.
