Abstract (up to 100 words)

This panel will discuss the role of two new units within the Trust & Safety team at the Wikimedia Foundation; Disinformation and Human Rights. Nathan Forrester will highlight how disinformation can manifest on Wikipedia and how it differs from regular Wikipedia vandalism. Sanda Sandu will draw attention to the integration of the human rights based approaches in Wikimedia's free knowledge projects, thinking in particular about the right to free expression, access to information and the right to be treated with dignity. The speakers will also discuss how our new units are attempting to address these particular issues through community partnerships.

How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region of Central and Eastern Europe?

The panel gives the speakers the opportunity to introduce the new units within the Trust and Safety function at the Wikimedia Foundation to the CEE community and attempts to open up space for community members to partner with the Foundation in these challenging areas.
