Abstract (up to 100 words)
  • During the meeting, I will tell you how the Wiki-Technology was integrated into the school and into the study of history in the classroom. Let's start with how my students first touch Wikipedia. I'll tell you what conclusions I made and how I created the first school WikiClub – "I & Wikipedia". Then we will talk about WikiClub and ongoing projects, as well as how we left the book on history and how we studied the history (subject) on Wikipedia in the 10th grade. I will tell you what results we learned and what achievements my students showed, what skills they acquired while working on Wikipedia.
  • I will also talk about sharing experiences, how I tried to popularize Wikipedia in all regions of Georgia and personally I visited 30 school in 12 regions of Georgia.
How will this session be beneficial for the communities in the region of Central and Eastern Europe?
  • My experience will provide an opportunity for all stakeholders to contribute to the integration of Wikimedia projects into the learning process and education.

  • Introduction of Wikipedia into lessons
  • Students' first touch with Wikipedia
  • Inspired to find Georgian sources about certain topics, but students only copied the sources
  • Then they founded the wiki-club Me & Wikipedia
  • Main goal to teach students to edit Wikipedia, twice a week, editing workshops
  • Most of students learned how to edit and reference
  • Project consisted of:
    • main problem is bad and old books (Georgian ministry of Education printed the history books)
    • main motivation to introduce new project
    • according to the project, children must learn their history, not in school but at home
    • They created Facebook group and used it for communication
    • received some topics to research
    • translated articles
    • grading system based on the size of their article, bytes
    • more than 20 Wikipedian students
    • they created more than 2000 articles in total
    • students participated in international wiki camp in Armenia
    • additional 2500 articles were made in collaboration within IMSA WikiCamps on Abkhazia and Samachablo (South Ossetia) cultural heritage sites in Georgian, English and Abkhazian wp.
  • One of his colleagues said: If teachers will share their experience with each other, students will be better.
  • 28 school throughout Georgia
  • National teacher prize, Jaba presented his project on the event and he was a finalist of the event, so he is chosen as one of the top 5 teachers in Georgia.
  • It was one of the obligations for the students to discuss these topics
