Summarizing Online Wikipedia Course, 2021 edit

It's already several years that Wikimedia Armenia has been organising Wkipedia courses. Due to this courses the community is expanding with people full of new ideas, knowledge and skills, the topics created or improved by the participants are developing on Armenian Wikipedia.

In September Wikimedia Armenia summarized another online Wikipedia course. This time the program was divided into two stages - training and the second stage called “edit yourself”.

The first stage lasted a month. It was launched in July 2021 and lasted till 31 of July. In the first stage, the participants learned to edit Wikipedia. They were divided into groups. Each group had a trainer. The groups met and held their training 2 or 3 times a week via Zoom. Additional private meetings were organised if needed. At the end of this stage the participants were already fully aware of the requirements and rules of Wikipedia, mastered the basic tools and edited themselves. The second stage lasted two months - from the 1 of August till 30 of September. The participants edited themselves, sometimes asking their trainers for help. This part aimed at checking the results of the training part.

From the 7 groups two groups were specifically for teachers. During the work with their trainer they created and improved articles on educational as well as other topics. Certificates will be sent by the post.

Wiki Loves Monuments 2021 edit

For the third year in a row, Wikimedia Armenia has participated in the annual "Wiki Loves Monuments" international photo contest. This year, 32 participants from Armenia joined the photo contest, 7 of whom were newcomers who registered on Wiki projects during the contest.

This year, compared to previous years, the participants were not quite motivated or excited due to the lack of traditional photo tours that we usually organized during WLMs. Nevertheless, the 32 participants of the contest uploaded 5674 photos of various monuments of Armenia and Artsakh to WikiCommons.

The Armenian participants of the contest ended in the 7th place of the international photo contest by the number of photos uploaded on WikiCommons.

The jury will evaluate the quality of the uploaded photos and decide the winners.

A Walk around the World: the Americas edit

A new project called "A Walk around the World" started in September on Armenian Wikipedia. Due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions of traveling, the project aims to enrich the Armenian Wikipedia with articles about cities around the world. Thanks to this project, participants have the opportunity to get acquainted with different cultures, go through the pages of history and travel around the world by creating an article.

The project will be implemented in 4 stages, each stage will last 9 days. The project is implemented within the framework of Wikiclubs, but is open to anyone who is interested in the project.

The first stage took place on September 23-30. During this stage, participants created articles about the Americas. The project created great interest among the editors; their active participation and involvement in the first stage prove it.

Twenty-nine wiki editors took part in the first stage who created articles on 81 cities across the Americas, contributing a total of 779,683 bytes to Armenian Wikipedia.
