Participation of Western Armenian Wikipedians in CEE meeting 2019
editOn 10-13 October 2019, the Western Armenian editors (Haigan Minasian from Athens and Aram Terterian from Beirut) took part in the Wikimedia annual CEE meeting of 2019, which took place in the capital city of Serbia, Belgrad.
The program for this meeting was very useful for conference participants. Through the different types of sessions, workshops that took place during the conference and especially in fruitful discussions many interesting and practical ideas, tools crossed the participant’s minds.
The attendance at both conferences is a great experience for participants, all kinds of people from different cultures and different countries attended these meetings. Community Meetup in Tsaghkadzor
editOn October 11-13, a community meet-up took place in Tsaghkadzor. The event was attended by 26 active editors and members of the organization. Unlike previous community meetups this time the main emphasis was not on editorial work. The purpose of the two-day meeting was to organize community-level discussions on Wikimedia Armenia’s activities, future steps, and development of the Armenian Wikipedia. During the two-day event, participants had active discussions on these issues, presenting their perceptions and visions of the organization's activities and future.
From now on, such meetings will often be organized to ensure Wiki community’s engagement in the organization's affairs.

Fall Wikicamp 2019
editFrom October 27 to November 3 Wikimedia Armenia organized Fall Wikicamp in Tsaghkadzor. Overall, 135 people applied for the Wikicamp, but as a result of the selection process, fifty-one people took part in the camp, including one newcomer and four payable participants. The camp was organized for active editors aged 9-15. en experienced wiki editors (Wikiteam) have organized editing processes at the Wikicamp. During eight days of the camp participants have edited and proofread articles in Armenian Wikipedia and Wikisource. At the end of each day the Wikiteam checked the content edited or improved during the day.
A number of wikigames have been organized on the following topics in order to improve campers' wikiliteracy and to correct frequently occurring errors:
- Material reliability
- Free and non-free photos
- Punctuation and syntax checking
- How to cite sources.
To make the life in the Wikicamp more lively and colorful, in addition to editing process, participants also had sporting, cultural, intellectual and leisure activities during the camp. The cultural part of the camp consisted of traditional song lessons and theatrical performances.
Wikimedia Armenia invited Bulgarian director Andrey Hajivasilev to the Wikicamp. In his turn, Andrey Hajivasilev invited the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Armenia Maria Pavlov to the camp. Each group of campers greeted the visitors in a different way - by a welcoming speech, performing a Bulgarian song, reading a Bulgarian poem and presenting a poster devoted to Armenian-Bulgarian friendly relations. Later that day, there was a movie screening where the campers watched Andrey Hajivasilev’s movie “The Curie Case” and had a discussion with the director.
After a successful collaboration with the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia in the second Summer Camp, Wikimedia Armenia decided to continue the productive cooperation and bring it to a new level. Soldiers of the Special Forces visited the camp and showed and taught the children some techniques for self-defense.

Training in Beirut
editThe Beirut gathering, which was scheduled from 16-22 October, started as planned.
On October 17, 5 experienced editors got acquainted with Visual Editor, and each one of them created an article by using the tool.
Unfortunately, due to the mass demonstrations in Lebanon shortly after our initial gathering on October 17, our planned work in Beirut became impossible to continue.
As a result of the protests, almost all major roads and streets of the city were closed and the participants could not attend the workshop.
