The hackathon is organized by a collaboration between amFOSS and Indic MediaWiki Developers User Group. amFOSS is an active student-run community based at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, that promotes free and open source software contributions. The club has been active for over 14 years with 50+ active members. Indic MediaWiki Developers User Group (aka Indic-TechCom) is a group of volunteers, from both within and outside India, providing technical support to various Indian language Wikimedia projects (for example, Wikipedia) and also organizing outreach for contributors in India to Wikimedia technical spaces.
While a detailed program will be shared as we get closer to the event date, it will be three day program. On Day 1 and possible until afternoon of Day 2, the participants will be introduced to basics of Wikimedia projects, the technical ecosystem, various ways to contribute, including but not limited to MediaWiki core (the software that powers Wikipedia and sister projects), templates, modules, bots, user scripts, web-based tools, gadgets etc. We will be spending the remaining of the time, 1.5-2 days forming groups and working on various projects/tasks. The collaborations can continue beyond the hackathon, and we will have time to discuss that.
