Wikimédiens du Burkina Faso User Group

Wikimédiens du Burkina User Group (Wikimedians of Burkina User Group) is a local chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation. Its mission is to promote the Wikimedia Foundation and Wikimedia projects in Burkina Faso, and it aims to encourage people to gather, organise, and share knowledge about Burkina Faso’s culture and history, in a way that informs and educates and that keeps the knowledge free.

Objectives

  • To promote the Wikimedia Foundation in Burkina Faso
  • To raise awareness on the need to share knowledge
  • To teach young people how to create local content
  • To raise awareness among the Burkinabe community on opportunities provided by the Wikimedia Movement such as trainings, projects and conferences
  • Mettre en place une équipe de contributeurs-Développeurs pour développer des gadgets et solutions autour des projets Wikimédia
  • Faire connaitre et enseigner Wikipédia et ses projets frères auprès des écoles et universités burkinabées.
  • To organise events such as WikiGap, Art+Feminism, WikiLoves Women, WikiEarth and PhotoWalks, where volunteers can add content
  • Collaborer avec les musées, les bibliothèques, et d'autres institutions publiques ou privées pour faire valoir le riche patrimoine culturel et historique du Burkina Faso sur les projets Wikimédias

Goals

  • To build a willing and vibrant community that gathers and shares free knowledge through Wikimedia projects
  • To build a willing and vibrant community that shares local images on Wikimedia Commons
  • To promote Wikimedia projects and free content in general, and to encourage the use of Wikimedia resources in (primary, secondary and higher) education
  • To organise conventions, conferences, meetings, workshops and other events
