Wiki Masyarakat Adat

The Indonesian society is built on a diversity of hundreds of ethnic groups; the number varies among government sources ranging around 700 to 2000 groups. However, Indonesia does not have any law governing specifically the indigenous people, including their lands and rights. The legal gap has caused uncertainty to protection of indigenous lands and customs. Yet surprisingly, there are many local regulations that govern the indigenous people and their lands.

Wiki Indigenous People is a program that compiles data about Indonesian regulations of various levels (from a decree by Indonesian People's Consultative Assembly to decrees by regents) that govern directly or indirectly about indigenous people. We collected the regulation documents and stored them in Wikimedia Commons. We also have prepared their index pages in Indonesian Wikisource for future proofreading. Moreover, we also added their data to Wikidata.

We have collected 128 regulation documents from various Indonesian government websites dan the Aliansi Masyarakat Adat Nusantara (AMAN) website. The regulations are sorted in detail as follows:

  1. Ketetapan MPR: 1 berkas
  2. Undang-Undang: 22 berkas
  3. Peraturan Presiden: 1 berkas
  4. Keputusan Presiden: 1 berkas
  5. Peraturan Menteri: 6 berkas
  6. Keputusan Menteri: 3 berkas
  7. Peraturan Daerah Provinsi: 10 berkas
  8. Peraturan Gubernur: 1 berkas
  9. Peraturan Daerah Kabupaten dan Kota: 37 berkas
  10. Peraturan Bupati: 5 berkas
  11. Keputusan Bupati: 41 berkas

Issues related to indigenous people are mentioned in most of the above mentioned regulations. However, in several regulations such as the president decree, the issue on indigenous people is only suggested (not mentioned directly) in certain themes.

The query of the regulations about indigenous people can be accessed here.

As a first step, this program is still far from perfection. Feedback from readers is welcome. You can put your feedback here.
