Wiki Loves Central Asia User Group

Wiki Loves Central Asia (WLCA) — group of people working on ensuring representation of Central Asia in Wikimedia projects.

Who we are edit

We are the group of wikimedians who are passionate about promotion of free knowledge in and on Central Asia. We're decided that the way we want to promote it will be organizing of local rounds of «Wiki Loves...» photo contests such as «Wiki Loves Earth», «Wiki Loves Monuments» and many others. They are good in bringing newcommers into the Wikimedia Movement and also provides thousands of valuable content about nature, culture and heritage of our areas of activity.

Our areas of activity spreads all over Central Asia that includes territories of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. We also will not hesitate to organize some activities in Iran or Afghanistan, but these countries are not in our priority list. Our full list of events can be found at our Events page.

Main operating language of the group is Russian, but some local activities can be held in local languages (such as Karakalpak, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tajik and Uzbek) or in English for the participants' convienience.

Goals edit

  • Promotion of free knowledge on the territory of Central Asia.
  • Growing representation of Central Asia in Wikimedia projects.
