4.5 billion people are disconnected This is the divide. The 60% of the world who could benefit the most from open resources and supporting tools lack the connectivity needed to access them. Let's talk about it !

The panel facilitated by Anthere will provides an update about technological solutions available to bridge the gap for people who have poor, or expensive, or no internet connexion. It will also be a place to share lessons, difficulties and success, from those involved in offline initiatives, in particular in the education sector. It will be the opportunity to discuss solutions to tackle issues around offline educational content and localization. Finally, it will be a possibility to promote the Wikimedians of Offline Wikis User Group.

The panelists will be

  • Stéphane Coillet-Matillon. " I’m old enough that my first browser was Netscape - I started using the internet when the web was a couple of years old and Yahoo! was the biggest search engine. Then 18 years ago I started editing Wikipedia. Yet today barely half of the world has access to it. How long until everyone can? I don’t know either, but this is why we created Kiwix - so that people can access content without the need for permanent connectivity." - http://www.kiwix.org
  • Vahid Masrour. Vahid works for Learning Equality, which develops the Kolibri platform, an open-source set of tools that provides access to openly licensed multimedia educational resources (such as Khan Academy, PhET, and many others) in offline environments. - https://www.learningequality.org/kolibri/
