Description

We propose to host a local in-person gathering of Wikimedia enthusiasts in Kwara State, Nigeria, as part of the WikiIndaba 2023 conference. WikiIndaba is an annual conference that brings together Wikimedians from across Africa to share experiences, collaboration and knowledge on Wikimedia projects. This year WikiIndaba edition is scheduled to take place from 3-5 November 2023 in Agadir, Morocco, as a primarily hybrid event, allowing participants to engage both in-person and virtually.

Our proposed location for the local in-person gathering in Kwara State is in the college of education Oro. This institution offers an ideal setting for Wikimedia enthusiasts, students, academics, and professionals to come together to participate in WikiIndaba 2023.

• Radiant04 is the founder of the Wikimedia Fan Club at College of Education Oro, Kwara State and the applicant for the proposed WikiIndaba 2023 project in the state. He has played a key role in facilitating numerous projects in north central Nigeria.
• Bembety; he is a highly experienced and accomplished editor with a profound understanding of Wikimedia projects. With his extensive expertise, he is the project lead of at Ummah College of Health Science and Technology. Throughout his career, Bembety has been actively involved in numerous impactful Wikimedia initiatives.
• Ibjaja055 is an experienced editor for Wikimedia projects and has taken part in various Wikimedia initiatives. He made the fourth-highest contribution to the third African Librarians Week, which took place from May 22 to May 29, 2022. The first-place winners of the WikiProject Public Domain Contest in Nigeria, the Wikipedia Awareness for Librarians edit-a-thon at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, and the Wikipedia Awareness and Training in Gombe edit-a-thon. He won the 2022 AfroCreative Award for Best International Content Creator. He worked as the Wikimedia Promotions project lead at Federal University Kashere and Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo.
• Abike25 is a well known editor and project lead from Osun State , he has perform excellently in many Wikimedian project. He is very dedicated in what he does and a very knowledgeable person
• RodaJames: is an experienced editor for Wikimedia projects and has taken part in various Wikimedia initiatives. She is the team lead of University of Ilorin. She is very dedicated and hardworking young lady. These are the project she had worked on:

We are targeting approximately 23 editors to actively participate in the WikiIndaba 2023 project in Kwara State, Nigeria. These editors will engage in various activities, including workshops, discussions, and networking events, to enhance their involvement in Wikimedia projects. The microfunding support will facilitate their participation and contribute to the success of this initiative.

We are sincerely grateful for the time and effort you invested in applying for a micro-grant for WikiIndaba 2023. Your interest in contributing to this event is highly appreciated.

Unfortunately, we have to inform you that your application was not selected for the micro-grant. We received an overwhelming number of quality applications (77 applications for only 7 grants), which made the decision process extremely challenging. Given the constraints, our focus has been on projects from underrepresented communities or groups that lack on-site representation at the conference. The team decided therefore to provide the grants only to countries where there are no user groups at the moment.

Though your application was not selected, we greatly value your interest in WikiIndaba 2023.
