Reviewers edit

The scores was reviewed by the programs team led by Ayokanmi and some of the Language usergroup leaders was consulted to review the language articles.

Rationale edit

The challenge depends on a number of quantitative rules. There is, however, one final and qualitative rule, that reads: "The organizers have the final say in the scoring of the contributions, and will clarify the rules and points if needed. Please note that the aim is to improve Wikipedia with high quality articles, so any content of low quality that has been added will lose points or even result in a ban from the contest, if the organizers so decide."

The organizers have gone through the articles of the top 3 contributors in each of the 6 languages, trying to weigh in on the qualitative aspect. There are quite a few examples where machine translations were done in translating articles or articles created about non-Nigerian. We believe the machine translation of articles to be a violation of the challenge stated rule, and weighed down these contributions, by removing their contributions and also eliminated any articles about non-Nigerians and non̠-women. This means that the final top 3 does not correspond to the top 3 on the dashboard list. Any questions around this can be put to the organizers

It is also important to note that our overall best prize goes to the user who has the highest number of verified points.

Any questions about this can be put to the organizers.

Supports edit

It's worth noting that this challenge wouldn't have been made possible without the extraordinary support of the Swedish Embassy In Nigeria, which supported the prizes for the winners, and the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) for media support.

What worked well edit

  • The contest had a good number of created articles.
  • We had a lot of newbies participating due to the collaboration with NAWOJ.
  • There were contributions in all of the languages of Wikipedia in Nigeria.
  • The partnership was solid and helpful

What did not work so well edit

  • There were some language Wikipedia with a low turnout of contributors, like the Igbo and Tyap Wikipedia.
  • Many articles created on the English Wikipedia were tagged for deletion.
  • There was an influx of participants using machine translations, which is not encouraged.
