Welcome to the Wikipedia writing challenge to improve the coverage of women on Wikipedia!
- What: This is a public writing competition to create and improve articles to strengthen Wikipedia's coverage of women and related topics into as many languages as possible. The list of articles to focus on has been provided by the local organizers of WikiGap 2019. The winners will receive great prizes. The Challenge is organized as part of the global WikiGap campaign with the first edition in 2019.
- How: The contest is simple in structure, based on a KISS point system: You get points while improving articles, with the goal for each participant to gain as many points as possible.
- Who: Everybody can help in any language to collaborate on writing and/or translating the articles related to women. Any Wikipedian with a named account (on any wiki) can participate. To participate you just need to sign up on the Participants section. At the different WikiGap events around the world we will give the participants information how they successfully can participate.
- Why: The contest is organized by the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Wikimedia Sverige, with support from Swedish embassies and Wikimedia affiliates across the world. Wikipedia is missing articles about all kind of topics and through this contest we hope to improve articles around women. Improving Wikipedia's articles and coverage around women is important to ensure that our readers find high quality information about the people that has helped form our world.
The WikiGap Challenge has come to an end after an intense month. We are proud to say that it has been a fantastic competition with a huge commitment from all of you. Together you have made significant contribution to more than 1,440 articles! Your hard work has helped reduce the gap and has exceeded our wildest expectations!
We hope that many of you continue your work making the gap smaller day by day.
Now we are happy to announce the ten winners of the main prizes in the Challenge:
Congratulations to all of you!
