If you need assistance with a digitization project, please consult with the Wikimedia chapter of the country where you reside. The only requirement is that it concerns encyclopedically useful or educational content whose copyrights have already expired or for which you hold the rights and are willing to make them available on Wikimedia Commons under an open license. The release of external material can be done in a targeted manner (standard text for the release of texts and images (German only). You can receive support from Wikimedia in the solicitation of the release of the rights or an e-mail address and business cards for getting in touch with the rights’ holders.
Other alternatives can be explored as well for filling gaps in the media collection through the creation or development of open content. One exception is the purchasing of rights. In addition, the following support programs may be helpful to you:
- Technical equipment for photography and film: If you need equipment for creating your own content, you can access our technology pool
- Contact to institutions: If you want to get in touch with public archives, libraries, galleries, or museums to gain access to their inventory.
Please send an e-mail to community@wikimedia.de. Files digitized with the support of Wikimedia Deutschland should be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons following the instructions specified in Category:Supported by Wikimedia Deutschland. The support guidelines of Wikimedia Deutschland apply. |
We either support you directly or put you in touch with the right contact person. For a start, simply send an e-mail to verein@wikimedia.at The support guidelines of Wikimedia Österreich apply. |

Please tell us and others about your experiences, for example on a subpage of your user page and link them here (in German only). By doing so, you will on the one hand help the Wikimedia organizations to understand the benefits of the support initiative; on the other, your experiences can be helpful to others.
