I agree with you, but...

I agreed with your comment, at en:Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Abdulquawiy_Abdulganiyu_Olododo, but I don't think you go far enough.

I think that en:WP:POLITICIAN should be considered to apply to political appointees, and not only to elected politicians.

  1. In the United States system, for instance, the POTUS appoints about two dozen cabinet secretaries. Some, like en:John Kerry, are elected politicians, or were elected politicians. Others, like en:Alexander Haig, never held an elected office. I would argue that US cabinet secretaries are just as important as Senators and House representative, and that POLITICIAN should be interpreted as applying to them.

A new POTUS makes something like 3,000 appointments, including ambassadors who have never previously served as diplomats, the heads of Federal agencies that answer to a Cabinet Secretary, and not to the POTUS directly.

  2. In the Canadian system, Senators are appointed, not elected. So are the Provincial Lieutenant Governors. Parliamenttary Auditors General are appointed, and they can inspire fear in the ministries of Finance. POLITICIAN should be interpreted as applying to them
  3. In some countries, there are no elections. Yet the highest officeholders of those states merit the same level of coverage at US Senators. POLITICIAN should be interpreted as applying to them
