Library Card access to newspapers.com edit

Hi,

I applied for, and received approval, for access a couple of years ago. However, I've not been able to access the full archived newspapers. My account profile at newspapers.com states, "You're currently a Registered Guest. This free subscription gets you access to search newspapers but you will not be able to view the full page. Get a paid subscription for access." — is that the way it's supposed to be? JGHowes talk - 23:49, 28 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

@JGHowes: - Hi. The upgrades at en:WP:Newspapers.com are given in 1 year increments. If you want to renew your full access, visit "My Library", click "My applications" and click the "Request renewal" button next to your previous application. We should hear back in about a week on the upgrade. In the meantime, if you need specific articles clipped for you, you can ask for them at en:WP:REREQ. -- Netoholic @ 01:41, 29 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi Netoholic, it appears my yearly subscription has ended, but there's no "Request renewal" button at my "library". It only has a "Go to site" button. What am I doing wrong? thanks! 78.26 (talk) 00:11, 23 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Heya 78.26. Head to https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/ , click "My Library", and then "My applications". You'll see that "Request renewal" next to your prior request on that "My applications" page. -- Netoholic @ 09:05, 23 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Newspapers.com Application edit

Hello, it says in the Wikipedia Library that my application for Newspapers.com has been accepted, but when I go onto Newspapers.com, it still asks me to subscribe to Newspapers.com. Isn't the point of the application that I would be able to use Newpapers.com for editing Wikipedia articles without having to pay for the Newspapers.com? Is there something I am missing? Please, help me. Lazman321 (talk) 04:05, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Lazman321: Sorry for the confusion. The status change of your application is "Sent to Partner" which means we've sent your account info to them and are waiting for them to implement the upgrade. You can keep checking back on the site, or wait for a message on your application when we've received back confirmation of your upgrade. -- Netoholic @ 07:11, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

newspapers.com question/comment about renewal edit

Hello -- I was using my Wikipedia login to Newspapers.com last night and today it looks like it's no longer active. I figure it may have expired (checking my email confirms this). I added myself to the waitlist after trying to figure out how to request a renewal. I also, after seeing this page, went through the process you described above and requested a renewal. Just wanted to leave you a note in case that somehow duplicates my requests. Thanks very much for your time. Jessamyn (talk) 22:23, 24 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Newspapers.com renewal edit

Hi, sorry to bother... I applied for a renewal of my newspapers.com access through the library and received a "sent to partner" message, but it's been about two weeks and it is still not showing active. Do I need to do anything else, or can you confirm that they received the access request, or should I just keep waiting? I also applied for newspaperarchive.com and that went active nearly the same day it was sent to partner. Thanks RecycledPixels (talk) 16:48, 19 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Newspapers.com edit

I had access to the newspapers account. It stopped working for me all of a sudden. Do u have any ideas of what may have happened? Thanks for your time, -420Traveler (talk) 13:40, 25 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

@420Traveler: - If you log into your Newspapers.com account and then view your account details, it should say "Plan Complimentary Publisher Extra — Annual" with a date its active until. Yours should be active until December 2021 (since your last request was in Dec. 2020 and these last for 1 year). -- Netoholic @ 15:28, 25 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Newspapers.com edit

Wikipedia:Newspapers.com > Access or apply for this resource > Apply ... click-click-click but nothing happens. It doesn't open.
My browser is working fine, and I came directly to this talk page after trying to open the Apply link.

After posting the previous comment, I remembered that I had signed up a long time ago through The Wikipedia Library. But when I got in and searched the subject, every single result returned "You need a Publisher Extra Subscription to view this page". And when I checked my account, it states: "You're currently a Registered Guest. This free subscription gets you access to search newspapers but you will not be able to view the full page. Get a paid subscription for access". This is absurd. Pyxis Solitary (talk) 12:19, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Pyxis Solitary - Free Publisher Extra access is provide to Wikipedia users in 1-year increments. It looks like your application was in June 2018 (meaning your free access would have expired in June 2019). You are of course free to renew your access by gong to "My Library", click "My applications" and click the "Request renewal" button next to your previous application. Once approved, Newspapers.com will give you another 1 year of access. -- Netoholic @ 20:48, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I requested renewal. Pyxis Solitary (talk) 17:35, 28 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Newspapers.com not approved edit

Why was my application not approved? I have had access for two years and I have been able to write good and featured articles because of access to Newspapers.com. There was no explanation given. Heartfox (talk) 23:19, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Heartfox: Thanks for the message. That was an error on my part selecting the wrong status, and I've fixed it so your application is approved. I'll be sending your info over to Newspapers.com so they can grant you access. -- Netoholic @ 23:50, 27 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! Heartfox (talk) 18:11, 28 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Newspapers.com edit

Hi! I'd like to get access to newspapers.com to write better articles (and hopefully GA status) about vintage computers, but somehow I am unable to press the apply button. I already have created an account there. Any idea what I am doing wrong? Thank you! PhotographyEdits (talk) 20:24, 19 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@PhotographyEdits: - hmmm not sure. Maybe a temporary problem with the website. give it a day and try to apply again. -- Netoholic @ 01:32, 20 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Netoholic: Hmm, I have tried it again, but the issue persists. Any idea what could help? Maybe a new Wikipedia account (if that is allowed)? Thanks in advance. PhotographyEdits (talk) 15:51, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@PhotographyEdits: I suggest using the contact form at https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/contact/ . -- Netoholic @ 20:23, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Netoholic: It worked now by the way, the application is now pending. PhotographyEdits (talk) 18:42, 25 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

Newspapers.com edit

Hey there! Saw that I got my Newspapers.com application approved, but when I go there, I am unable to view the clippings. And unlike the rest which says "Access collection", the button for this one says "Go to website". Is there something wrong with this? Gerald Waldo Luis (talk) 11:25, 20 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Gerald Waldo Luis: - Correct, it doesn't work like other resources. For you to use it, go directly to Newspapers.com and log in using the account you set up there. -- Netoholic @ 12:52, 20 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Newspapers.com edit

Hello, would you be able to process my newspapers.com renewal? My application has been open for a week now. Thanks. --Hockeyben (talk) 20:16, 25 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Renew my newspapers.com access please? edit

As someone who often works in American History, this resource is invaluable to me. Expired in last few weeks. Appreciate your help. I was offered Ancestry.com at the same time I was granted my previous renewal, never used it, but would be interested in trying it. BusterD (talk) 22:31, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

@BusterD: - Hi. To renew, visit "My Library", click "View my applications" and click the "Request renewal" button next to your previous application. -- Netoholic @ 04:42, 21 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Groovy. Thanks! I applied for Fold, which seemed like the relevant option. BusterD (talk) 08:32, 21 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Newspapers.com application edit

Hi! I applied for Newspapers.com access on May 17, and it looks like my application was approved and sent to this partner on May 19, but I haven't heard back yet. Is there anything I can do to support their review of my application? Thanks! Dreamyshade (talk) 23:25, 1 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Oh sorry, I figured it out - the subscription is activated. I was expecting another stage of the process to happen. Thanks! Dreamyshade (talk) 23:29, 1 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Newspapers.com edit

Hi Netoholic, I applied for a Newspapers.com renewal two weeks ago but have not gotten any update. I just wanted to make sure the request went through. Thanks, Heartfox (talk) 05:20, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Heartfox. It did, but our contact at Newspapers.com has been away a few days. Should get an update within a day or so. -- Netoholic @ 05:22, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Application revoked? edit

I logged into Newspapers.com via my AncestryDNA account, tonight, and when I'm clicking through to pull up an article I'm being asked to upgrade to a "Publisher Extra Subscription to view this page." What's going on? Criticalthinker (talk) 05:30, 12 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it looks like your subscription has expired (they were previously given out in 1-yr lengths). I see you've re-applied, so we'll forward your information to the partner after the weekend. -- Netoholic @ 08:42, 12 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
