Word limit on Wikimedia Foundation elections/2024/Candidates/Erik Hanberg

edit

Please be aware that there is a word limit of 1000 words for all your answers in total. You used so far 926 words according to my counting tool in Libre Office Writer, but some candidates are already above the limit.

The word limit exists to limit the effort for our translators who will translate your text into several languages so that people who do not understant English can vote for you. Der-Wir-Ing ("DWI") talk 09:46, 29 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

Optional question for Board Election candidacy

edit

A mistake in the candidate application was brought to the attention of the Election Committee, accidentally duplicating an optional question and omitting an additional optional question. The Election Committee decided that candidates may still answer the additional question, and will waive the word count limit in the case of answering this additional question. You may fill out your answer on your candidacy page. The deadline to answer the optional question is 23:59 UTC on 2 June. Please let me know if you have any questions. l'élection du conseil d'administration de la Wikimedia Foundation 2024.

edit

"Bonjour,

Hello and thank you for your question! Thank you for you patience with my reply, and for my reply being in English.
I believe my deep experience with nonprofit governance will be an asset to the Wikimedia Foundation. I believe a nonprofit can follow best practices that include being responsive and accountable to stakeholders (such as its editors).
You asked about my vision for the Movement. It is summed up in the vision of Wikimedia: "Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge." It's why I believe my strongest skills are in working to improve the systems and culture that allow the Movement to flourish.
In terms of advancement, good governance can unlock potential, especially when an organization is mired in internal politics. But I would also like to see more small “strategic bets” where Wikimedia can test new ideas quickly. Sometimes this is a better strategy than endless planning cycles that are out-of-date by the time they start.
Finally, in terms of minority language user groups, I think that is a great place for the Wikimedia Foundation to show its commitment to diversity, and use its revenue to provide funding for minority languages to help them reach a critical level of both readers and editors.
Thanks!
